Don't follow it too much anymore, but OKC winning is a big upset isn't it? Didn't the Spurs win almost 70 games?

Golden State got all the press by winning 73 but the Spurs were right on their heels. I was even expecting The Spurs to knock off Golden State in the Conference finals. OKC is no slouch, however. It was incredible how dominate the Spurs were at home this season. I heard a stat that in the 41 home games they played this year, the Spurs only trailed in the score for a total of 35 minutes for the entire season. Then they lose 2 at home to OKC.

The NBA draft lottery was last night. About 4 hours before the lottery took place, former 76ers player Dikembe Mutombo tweeted congratulations to the 76ers for winning the lottery. Guess who won the draft lottery? The 76ers. Dikembe Mutombo claimed he didn't know anything ahead of time. Something seems fishy here. ;-D

Seems weird to have the lottery going on while their are still games being played, but ummmmm yeah. Celts pick third.

This draft process is really ridiculous. Teams like the 76ers that tank on purpose are really bad for the league. Why do we even need a draft (this goes for football too). There is a salary cap in place so why not just let the players negotiate with no draft? With no draft, there would be no need to tank. With a salary cap in place, I can't figure out what purpose the draft serves.

How do you know that teams tank on purpose? Maybe they are just really bad. I mean, it is not necessarily the worst team that gets the top pick. The top 6 picks are given to bad teams at random, so there is no need to tank.

I find it amusing that my Facebook feed today was full of sports people eating crow and apologizing to Canada.

I do not find it amusing that Facebook still won't let me list my city as "Other".

The Sixers have admitted they've been tanking for 3 years to get draft picks. They even named their tanking, "The Process." In the draft lottery, the odds are stacked to favor the teams with the worst records. So even though it is random, the teams with the worst records have the best chance at the top pick.

I'm just wondering what the point of having a draft is if there is a salary cap. Since there is a salary cap, the teams have the same amount of money to spend so I don't know why a draft is even needed.

OKC is on fire. When the playoffs started, I was leaning towards San Antonio or Golden State to win it all but now OKC is on the verge of eliminating a 67 win team and a 73 win team in consecutive series. I love watching Russell Westbrook play. When he is on, he is impossible to stop.

Watch the first 30 seconds or so of this interview with Lebron. The Cavaliers had just eliminated the Raptors.

Is this why so many American's hate The Blue Jays and The Raptors? And their fans?

Our team just got eliminated....and they are being cheered. The crowd outside in Jurassic Park were probably cheering too. I don't think most American's "get" that. It confuses them...and confused people are often angry people.

(Do other teams have something like Jurassic Park or The Bird's Nest? Do you know what I'm talking about?)

Add to that, when playing either of these teams, they have the entire country cheering for them. And the only way an American team has the entire country behind them is IF it's a final game and they are playing against The Blue Jays or The Raptors.

~~~
The reason I'm asking this question on this forum is, I haven't felt that searing hatred from anyone here. I have on other places on the Internet.
I have never seen any hate for the Canadian teams from US fans other than rivalry type of stuff. You can always find searing hate somewhere on the internet though but I think that is more about trolls than humans. ;-D
As far as the Jurassic Park type fans, we do have some of that. In the series between Golden State and Oklahoma City, both arenas were filled with fans watching on TV in the arena when the teams were in the other city. The US does not have any teams that have an entire country rooting for them though other than in Olympic events.
I'm not talking about random strangers on Twitter or commenting on news articles. I'm talking individual's I've known on various forums for years. (Some as much as 10 years.) An example is someone who has been a baseball fan as long as I've known her. But last year, the @$$ wipe was her favourite part of the post season. This year she has become a raging Rangers fan because of Odor hitting Bautista. Now, this is one person, so just one example.
SKMB and Facebook are the only places on-line I will talk sports. (Ok, Twitter as well, but I have very few contacts on Twitter and most are Canadian.)
~~~~

Jurassic Park and The Birds Nest happen when we have home games as well as away. Only during (or maybe near) post season.

One example here of that kind of thing is Wrigley Field in Chicago. I've been there 3 or 4 times and there is always more going on and more people outside the stadium than in. When there is a Cubs game it is an event for the entire neighborhood. Wrigley is the most awesome baseball stadium I've ever been to (except when it's time to use the restroom ;-D).

AnnaMarie,

For many years, a few of my friends and I made trips to different major league ballparks each season. We would pick a place almost randomly and travel there for a weekend series. The one trip I missed with them was Toronto and I'm sorry I did. They loved Toronto so much it was always tops on the list to go back. Our trips got derailed in 2008 with the economic collapse as all of us got destroyed. We've recently been talking about starting up again and Toronto is tops on the list.

Ok - that's two baseball posts for me in a basketball thread. But it's my thread so I can break the rules. ;-D

While I don't really follow basketball other than casually, I must say that I've been impressed with the presentation of Steph Curry. And the Warriors coming from a 1-3 deficit to take the series showed real gumption. Good for them.

I think if I was going to travel to see a game anywhere, I'd go see the Red Sox. I think that stadium looks great.
