Popping in to add some tips I know, most of which have to do with dry skin. Lessee ...

For a gentle and effective exfoliant, mix a little baking soda into a bit of your body or face wash. It won't damage your skin (beyond the expected exfoliation).

I am terrible at taking this advice, but: to keep from drying out your skin, especially in the winter, take quick showers with warm, not even close to hot, water. I KNOW. I love long, hot showers too. But they dry out your skin something fierce.

To deal with the lizard skin hands this time of year, before bed, after a little gentle exfoliation (baking soda and body wash), towel dry your hands. Apply a good lotion or cream. Then top that with vegetable shortening. Yep, Crisco. Then slip your hands into cotton gloves. (I've used socks when I was desperate.) Go to sleep. I KNOW. But just try it. You'll be amazed the next morning.

If your skin is sensitive or easily irritated, go easy on the stuff with fragrances, especially things that stay on your skin, like lotion. Soap that gets washed off is less of an issue. I am not remotely an alarmist, but it is true that fragrances tend to irritate skin.

Honey, though sticky and messy, is a really good humectant. So if you gently wash your face, pat it dry so that it is a little damp, rub a little honey on, let it sit for 15 minutes or so, then rinse, your skill will look and feel more moisturized. For this use, it does not really matter what type of honey, whether it is raw or not, etc.

Speaking of facial masks, be careful what you put on your skin. I would love to be able to use an avocado mask because I am sure it is very moisturizing. However, it turns out that although I have no problems at all eating avocado, it burns the sh!t out of my skin, turns it red, and makes it swell. Nothing else I know of does that to me. So ... yeah ... try a little spot for a few minutes before you go whole hog with a new thing. You never know.
Thanks for the tips, I'll try the honey one soon I think

I got lucky with the avocado oil. I bought it at a natural foods store and didn't test it out before I smeared it on my entire face! Thank goodness I didn't have a negative reaction! Very good advice about using caution-I just made the assumption that because I eat avocados, that I wouldn't have a problem-didn't even cross my mind. This obviously isn't the case with everyone!

Yes, that's basically what I did, except I used the actual avocado. But yeah, I smeared it across my entire face. Because why not? Then about 17 seconds later, I was racing to get it all off. The visible "burn" lasted for hours.

I think the reaction I had was rare. For most people, it's a really great mask. And super easy, since all you do is mash up the avocado! I was quite irritated that that option has been stolen—STOLEN, I SAY—from me.

It made for a funny story, though.

Me too. Trust me, I was paying attention to make sure no airways started swelling up. But it ended up being just like a first degree sunburn. Not too bad.
This isn't as bad as a "burn" by any means, but reminded me of something that happened years ago. I have always taken a lot of vitamins, and for some reason was taking liquid Niacin for a short time. Well, the bottle was almost empty, so I decided to "finish it off." I turned beet red from my legs to my face! Thank God my mom was there and told me that was a common side effect of Niacin-I was about two seconds away from driving myself to the emergency room!

LOL! Yes. The Niacin flush. My MIL avoids any but the smallest amounts because she's so sensitive to it.

I read about that a couple of weeks ago but I just wasn't convinced about shaving my face at all, however in the comments I found that someone said they used an electric epilator for "peach fuzz" and I tried it, it hurts but it works a charm, plus it stimulates the skin and favorises regeneration.

this happened to my husband. he was taking it to lower cholesterol. I didn't bother to read the bottle, thought since it was a vitamin nothing to worry about! Benadryl was a life saver!

Here, there and everywhere.
I've been using Age Perfect Golden Balm, by L'Oreal. (Yes, when you're using a moisturizer endorsed by Diane Keaton, you're old.) The skin on my cheeks and neck was getting this look, this old-lady-in-a-pearl-button-cardigan look, and I googled around for a good moisturizer and found this. It's helped - the only problem with it is that it's very strongly scented.

I'm chuckling as I'm sitting here reading this in my pearl button cardigan twin set. ;-D
