Wash your hair before you go to bed, when it's in that state where the hair is dry, but still has minimal moisture (you girls know what I mean), twist strands and wind them into bantu knots and pin them. Sleep. When you wake up in the morning, undo the bantu knots and then finger comb your hair. It gives you really nice beach waves, very summery, lots of body and easy to sleep on and easy and quick in the morning.

This probably works best for longer hair.

Go to youtube and watch bantu knots if you're not sure how to do them.

My mama & grandma called them pin curls :) We also did rag curls--my girls still request those sometimes. They get a head full of curls that last for days (or until the next wash). For people like us, with pin straight hair that doesn't hold any other type of curl for more than a couple of hours, it's like a miracle made of rags or pins :D

Yes, very much like a pin curl, only tighter and knottier. And yes, pin straight hair club here.

I used to know girls in high school who would tye their hair rags before time to get that curled look.
I used to braid my long hair in lots of little braids when it was damp and let it dry overnight. It made it full and curly and it lasted until I washed my hair again. BUT you had to get those braids just the right size, otherwise you'd have total frizz and look like the bride of Frankenstein.

I would killed the environment with many cans of aqua net used during the 80's :ohnoes:

I remember a time when I stood head down, can of Aqua net in one hand and blow dryer in the other to achieve my look :) Apparently 'startled mass murderous (my hair was blood red at the time) porcupine' was my thing--lol. I just found a picture a few days ago.

Yup, same with rag curls. I messed up once and made my youngest girl look insane right before a dance thing. Luckily she was 3 at the time and loved her fuzzy hair :D

Speaking of hair spray, for those who still use it: I did a story about our local Paul Mitchell school for the indie paper, and at the end the director gave me a grab bag of goodies. One of the things was a hair spray that I really like called Paul Mitchell Express Dry. I don't use it often, but when I do two quick shots holds my flyways seriously all day without that 'helmet head' look. I can even comb through it and it goes back where it was originally sprayed.

:rofl::rofl:Oh my! The dreaded EpiLady! I was also one of those who begged my mom for it. Those buggers were expensive, but I got one for Christmas when I was 15. First problem - the hair has to be long enough for the gadget to grab it. Well, I have dark hair so I waited as long as I could (like I looked like I was wearing tight) then gave it a go. Second problem! - it hurt like a *$%@&! I couldn't finish even one shin, then it was banished forever! I think I finally gave it to goodwill. How mean of me that was!;DD

Can you imagine how bad that would hurt? And it would be so tight in there, I don't know how the heck you'd get it cut out. I'd walk around with that thing in my pants and look like I had a d*** until it just dropped off.

Nope. Just nope. Speaking of that sort of dethatching, though…I did get an excellent recommendation from a friend (if anyone's interested)… (or is that going too far? :snicker:)
