Sometimes life is hard. But often, the hard bits have something going for them, like lessons learned ... or positive byproducts. Here are some of mine.

The big one, I think, is that losing my job twice this year (after a few years of semi-tough finances) has taught me that a lot of the stuff I took for granted was just stuff. I don't miss it, really. I waste much less than I used to. And we have a plan, once we are both working again, to get in a much better financial place. I'm going to transition to a new, more reliable career (web design/development) over the next year or so. Also, family and friends are the best part of life. REALLY.

The second thing is that I just got notified that my blog is inadvertently hosting a phishing scam. Ugh. I've decided to completely wipe it and do a new Wordpress installation and reload of my old posts. The plus side is that I was sort of reminded that my blog needs attention ... and also I've been wanting to redo it anyway (from a technical perspective).

So what's your silver lining?

I never earned much money or anything but the big silverlining is that I've always(almost anyways) worked with things i love. First with Archaeology and history, then with spreading the knowledge about our history in different ways, talks, guidetours and writings on the net about these subjects and now I'm actually being paid to write. Yes, it is incredible. I have not earned a lot by working so far by have always enjoyed going to work because i really enjoy my subjects and love to write. Then money is no big deal. I have enough to pay my bills. (and buy an occasional book).

If you are happy doing your work, it is not work, it is a joy in life. I am so happy for you, Kurben.
