Hi there, does this specifically come up in Bag of Bones? (I can't quite remember the reference in that book, it's been a long time since I read this one.)
Yep , the writer character cannot enter his Zone , hence he can't write anymore (writer's block). There is also reference about the black singer bringing ppl in the zone. Also when the writer is with the young mom , they feel in the zone. If my memory doesn't fail me.

I know of times when i've been working on something and then it's lunchbreak or the working day is over or something but if you're in the zone (i usually say that have the flow right now) you don't stop. You use it because those momenmts when the words just come tumbling out are too precious to be disturbed by foodbreaks or sleep or unimportant stuff like that. Its a special feeling. I also remember days when i was supposed to write but everything came out wrong and i had to erase it. All of it. Then you're definitely not in the zone. Like someone said "You go with the flow".

"Flow state" happens when I'm into something and I look up at the clock, see that ten hours have passed, my stomach is rumbly and my bladder is so full it's pendulous. Natural urges to eat and pee take a back seat when in that Zone. Goes with work, same with writing and reading. Can't count the number of times I've put a book down or stopped typing, thinking it was around midnight and it was 3am. I hate and love it at the same time. You're tired the next day... but it's worth it!!
