I forgot about True Grit! I liked the Jeff Bridges version, though (I can't stand John Wayne, aside from The Quiet Man and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, and I mostly like those for the co-stars--lol). It's closer to the book.

Mad Max (1979), whilst not in the Old West setting, has many of the same archetypes and typical plot elements of westerns, so I had to give it a mention here. Classic movie.

HAHA! I struggled with adding Star Wars and Firefly. Both are outer space Westerns, and I love both.
