Better Search Feature

Jordan, is there anyway our search feature could be tweaked to be better? I was looking for a thread we have called, Horses!

I typed in Horses (minus only the exclamation point) in the search engine. This was the first page of possibilities that pulled up. WTH? This is terrible.

If you check the box next to "Search Titles Only," the Horses! thread comes up.

Well, there ya go! Gotta learn how to do it right.

Well I just did that and it pulled up nothing. Again, I put the word Horses without the exclamation point.

Said, No results found.

Unless you have EXACT wording and case, it is still worthless.

You need to also uncheck "search this forum only" which it seems like is the default setting.

Many times, even when you check the box you get funky results unless you put the info in exactly as the name of the thread. The search is case sensitive too which makes it even harder to find stuff. It would be nice if you typed something close, you would get results that were close but unless you type it in exact, you don't get good results.

I had typed in Horses with a capital H, but no exclamation mark.

I got nuthin' when I did that. BUT, I did not uncheck that one box, so I think that's what was throwing everything off.

Hmmm. That's strange. If I type in Horses and check the Search Titles Only box, I get the correct thread.

Dana Jean ==CYB hit the nail on the head. Often you are on a page within a forum, and you go to do a search. Technology does not understand you want to find it no matter where it is, so it only searches within the parameter of which thread you are in. Unck the boxes as CYB did and presto.

Horses is a tricky search. I tried it with cows, chickens, and pigs and it seemed okay.

If you were within the forum Chattery Teeth-- which contains- Horses- that it will come up. If you were in another thread, nope.

Yep, my whole problem was not unchecking the one box. Easy peasy once someone teaches you how.

Maybe Jordan could change the default so that that one box is unchecked?
