Susanna would not be amused if I did not take part in the birdie topic. Here are some interesting factoids...

-Most birds stay with the first mating partner and remain monogamous for life.

-Many birds fly in a V-formation which improves aerodynamics and saves energy as a flock using telepathy to stay in synchronized formation.

-Woodpeckers can peck twenty times a second.

-Some parrots in the wild fly over 500 miles a day searching for food.

-The Mocking Bird can imitate the sounds of forty other birds.

-Owls can rotate their heads 180 degrees, Snowy Owls almost a full 360.

-An Emu can run up to 30 mph (45 kmh).

-The Albatross has an average wing span of 14 feet (4.2 meters), needs to land only twice a year in order to mate, they can fly hundreds of thousands of miles per flight, they can sleep while flying even at a speed of 25 mph.

-An Ostrich can grow to be nine feet tall.

-A Flamingo can only eat when their head is upside down.

-Some male songbirds sing over 2000 songs a day.

-The Spine-tailed Swift can fly up to speeds of 220 mph and more.

-The hummingbird can fly straight up and down and backwards.

-Penguins can jump six feet in the air.

-Birds do not sweat.

-The Arctic Tern migrates from the Arctic to Antarctica and back covering more than 20,000 miles.

-The dove is the symbol of love and also an albino pigeon.

-The duck's 'quack' does not echo where other sounds do and nobody knows why. That old duck magic.

I lived by a pond once. Canadian Geese. I bought corn to feed them

I could not leave for work in the morning after awhile... All of these babies would just hear the door open.... Gha.. They would come running at me like mad.

I was a funny site, unless you are running from them all.. They peck!
I had to be fast. They would have took me down.

I need to try to get a video of it, but I'm not sure she'd cooperate. But, often, when we use the microwave in the kitchen, our Cockatiel in my daughter's room beeps. Sounds just like the nukem. "The bird's beeping!" is a common utterance in our house.
