You are so sweet, cat. I talk this way to my students too. Anything silly and weird, they respond to. My whole day is like being onstage for seven hours! Hey, and whar's my bug hug????? ;-D
((((danie)))) Big BUG hugs!! Cry pardon! :love_heart:

I am just going to start typing it that way all the time, I think. I have to go back and correct it more often than not, why fight it? ;-D

Firstly my condolences about your car.

Secondly hats off and admiration for this. One thing I have never understood about the U.S. is the love of the automatic gearbox. I would get so bored driving a car without gears to change!
We ukeleleists must stick together! I am driving some nondescript rental sedan, and have already almost fallen out into the floor reaching for the gearshift. There will probably be a hole in the floorboard where I have been stomping on the nonexistent clutch! Enterprise here doesn't even rent a manual. I told the girl there they should have at least one. Where's the fun in driving without the control of the stick?????

I drove cars with manual transmissions for many years. Four years of commuting on Boston's Southeast Expressway made me decide I never wanted to own a car with one again and so far I've stuck to that.

I'm with you on that. Most of my commutes when I was driving to work up rte. 3 to 93 was a line from I Can't Drive 55. "I can't get my car out of 2nd gear....."

That gave me a little PTSD. ;-D I think it was a half-hour of shifting from first to 2nd, brake, and repeat before I could get into moving traffic to continue on to Weymouth.

My most recent commute was from Weymouth to Quincy. Could take anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour! Rte. 18 through Braintree was no better. That would take a half hour on a good day. Leaving for the day was worse. Half hour easy to get out of the industrial park and cross the overpass.

Now that I take the commuter rail it's about 18 minutes from my stop to South Station. I leave work at the same time as before and get home at least 30 minutes earlier.
