For Part 2

1.) Have you ever bonded with a friend or family member through a particular Stephen King novel? Which one? (I'm especially interested in hearing if you converted a non-horror reader). - Yes, both my sons read The Long Walk and loved it.

2.) If you could live in a single book's universe, which would it be? Any of the Harry Potter books.

3.) Most shocking death of a character. (USE SPOILER. PLEASE PUT BOOK TITLE IN SPOILER).
The Big Nowhere by James Ellroy. I'll say no more.

4.) Is there a book you'd never read again not because it was poorly written but because it overwhelmed you? (Example: too violent, taboo subject, or too painful). Someone mentioned We Need to Talk About Kevin. That's about as perfect of a pick as I can imagine.

5.) Have you ever joined a bookclub? Consequently, did you discover a great book? No

6.) Do you have a favorite sleuth or mystery series? (You may choose two). I love Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch series.

7.) What are your top three favorite short story writers? Stephen King, Edgar Allan Poe, 3rd is tough (I can't say me can I?) probably Raymond Carver.

8.) Is their a certain person you'd like to see pen a memoir? (Anyone that has never written a memoir). Jimmy Page if he hasn't done so already.

9.) Have you ever found a book left behind at a hotel or restaurant and took it and read it? Sort of. We rented a house in Galena once and I read the house copy of The Valachi Papers there.

10.) A recent trend was classic books with genre-bending plots. For instance, Pride and Prejudice with zombies. What book would you like to see rewritten with a similar outrageous twist? Not exactly outrageous, but I'd love to see Heart of Darkness set in outer space.

skimom2 I like your idea of existing in the when of Little House on the Prairie - simpler times!
All this talk of the upcoming eclipse makes me think of Dolores Clayborne - are you all looking forward to it.
I think somewhere sometime we've talked about reading The Stand to our husbands - my memory...
My cousin gave me the low down on The Girl Next Door - I was appropriately horrified, and when I told her I found it in the True Crime section of B&N, she nearly died. She thought it was fiction. I never read it - I don't think I could. And I feel the very same way about Lionel Shriver. Are we twinners?

Well, it'd never be boring, that's for sure.
....I know!....but not so much because of the myriad of denizens, both human and not.....more because of how warmly he writes about the locales, their is genuine love for the area that permeates those early novels, and I think it's that nostalgic feel that touches me....

IT
2.) What three first edition books are on your wish list?
Never was much of a collector of first editions really...
3.) Favorite book(s) set in the Midwest.
Huck Finn, Lonesome Dove and Something Wicked this Way Comes. Is The Shining Colorado) considered Midwest? That too in that case.
4.) Have you ever questioned the relevance of a particular book on a high school reading list? What book? If not, pick a book you'd add to list.
Nooo, dont think so. We read some swedish classics. I think Körkarlen (eng. Translation: Thy Soul Shall Bear Witness) is one of the great ghostnovels. Scary, instructive, realistic and supernatural at the same time. A masterpiece from Swedens most worthy Nobelprize winner (Selma Lagerlöf, 1909). It deserves to be more widely read and is not so very long either. Should fit in a readinglist.
5.) Name a book in your current TBR list.
Mudwoman by Joyce Carol Oates

Thanks for the cool Swedish "ghost novel " recommendation. I'll look for it. Also, the first question is 'who' not 'what'...I'm looking for a living writer in your response, LOL.
