As others have said, sounds like an allergic reaction.

I have an allergy to mosquito bites. When I get bitten by a mosquito the bites swell up to 3 or 4 times the size of a normal bite. Used to be worse when I was a kid. I got a bite on my face when I was 5 or 6 that swelled the skin under my eye to the size of a golf ball :(

Benadryl, Calamine Lotion, and Witch Hazel used to work pretty well for me.
Mozzie bites do that to me too. And they stay for days. I've got scars. Needless to say, living in Louisiana, I keep a supply of Benedryl (pill and cream form) handy at all times.

The swelling is down today, so between the Benadryl, and the calamine lotion it is better today. Thank goodness!
...if you've been using OTC Benadryl, and it's in 25mg capsules or tablets...I would give her one this AM, Noon and at bedtime...then tomorrow, one in the AM and at bedtime...after that, drop to an as needed dosing-if she's good, don't dose after tomorrow...

Glad her hand is fine. :)

I cannot stand calamine lotion.

My youngest is allergic to bugs. At least one that bites and one that stings. When he got bit on the ankle, his leg swelled right up to the hip....doubled in size. We were in a cottage with no phone and no cell service. I sat in the back seat driving to the hospital, with my adult epi-.pen in my hand and my husband saying "you can't use that on him. It's to much. He'll over-dose." And I kept my eyes my son and told hubby to shut up and drive. I know what happens if he needs it and doesn't get it...over dose can't be worse.

Anyway, he's a teen now and got a mosquito bite at school. They don't cause bad reactions in him....an area about the size of toonie swells up....but he was in vocal and didn't want to take benedryl because it makes his throat dry and he can't sing. So instead he took a 24-hour antihistamine (Claritin or reactin). It did not help. We bought him some cream to use next time. There are various brands available, but I don't remember which one we bought.
