The phrase hell or high water comes to mind. I have a half decent vehicle that should make it as long as we skip the fun but scary mountain 'shortcut' through Colorado. My teenager is in as long as my toddler is left behind. Cash shouldn't be too much of an issue but booking the room in advance might. I've been checking into the option originally suggested and the rates look reasonable.
