I saw that recipe! Yours is gorgeous. Yeah, that's what I was thinking on the pears, too. Barely ripe Bosc might be able to take the pre cooking and still stand in the tart pan. I definitely plan to try this

Thank you! I'm working on one for myself now (post #899 has a "before" pic). It's a king size so will probably take me 2 or 3 months to finish since I only work on it on weekends but I'm happy so far with the quilting. It's hard to see the detail as I'm using a colorless monofilament thread because there are so many colors in the piecing and hard to capture with a cell phone camera. It's a lot prettier in person but you can get an idea of what it will look like. The brown piece on the right side hasn't been quilted yet but will have that same spiral design.

I made a red, white and blue 'Captain America' afghan for my daughter for Christmas, and I'm working on a monster afghan for my son--all he wanted for his 22nd birthday I misjudged the original chain (lost count while watching TV), so I missed his birthday (last Friday), but the enormous beast should be done by the weekend--lol. He'll be able to wrap his entire body in it, including his head and his feet

Crochet? I just make the granny squares and then sew them together with yarn.

For sure. I don't do fancy stitches--just single, double, and shell. Thick and warm I get on a crochet kick every once a while, and #1 son and #1 daughter decided to take advantage of this one--lol. Last year it was Doctor Who scarves for the younger ones, and the year before it was a 'toast' scarf for #1 daughter--each section looked like a piece of toast with a pat of butter in the middle. She wanted one, don't ask me why.

Thanks so much for the article! I should have done my yarn first...doh! But I am happy it can be saved! It would make for a scratchy blanket.

I quit using acrylic yarn because it is so scratchy. I'll have to look into "treating" it (didn't know that was a possibility!), because the acrylic yarn is about half the price of the stuff I switched to.

Love it! My kids' aren't that long, but they wrap around several times and dangle nearly to the floor

Moderator Those quilts are incredible! I can't pick a favorite - I love them all! You're very talented at that.

While not exactly a craft, my passion is baking. Especially when the weather gets cold. I made this French apple tart as a practice run for an upcoming dinner party mid February. I'm very happy with how it turned out, plus it was quite tasty. The recipe is from America's test Kitchen/Cooks' Country/Cook's Illustrated.

To be honest... they do! That is the one thing that always surprises people; they almost always think the cookies will be hard and tasteless, but in reality they are like a cross between a sugar cookie and a butter cookie. I use the Rich Rolled Sugar Cookie recipe from The Joy of Cooking.
