Canada Census 2016

Canadians are so excited about having a "proper" census for a change.....the web site crashed.

People are disappointed when they find out they got the "short form".

I got the short and it is SO FUNNY!

One question asks what each person's sex is ON MAY 10, 2016.

DS is not trans, but so many of his friends are LGBTQ that he is a part of that community

I suspect a lot of people will not be checking either male or female. Apparently if you skip that question it will tell you, but it will allow you to continue. Instructions are being tweeted for non-binary people...skip it and then add a note at the end.

Internet quizzes and polling, as I see it, are very popular. You always see ads, forum posts, etc asking them and people jump at it. Do you think there's some of that conditioning with people's excitement for the census?

How many options for "sex" could there be? Male, Female, Both organs, Neither organs.
"Gender" on the other hand, could be infinite.

I thought it was funny that they asked which sex each person is ON MAY 10, 2016. (As opposed to other days? Lol) and actually, people who consider themselves as non-binary are skipping that question.

And no, I don't think it's because people like internet quizzes. (Not for most people anyway, though it is a valid idea.) Many people here have been very upset that we have not had a proper census done in many years. We are a country of nerds (proud nerds) and apparently we prefer the science of numbers for where and what to to build, rather than whatever was being used to make these decisions before.

Years ago I got the long form. One of the questions asks where your ancestors come from. For my husband it was easy...I listed the countries his parents were born.

But for myself....I had to select "Other" and write Canada on the line. I got in trouble. There was a big thing on the news. Apparently I wasn't the only one who did it. So many of us did it, and refused to change it, it's now an option.
