I used to have this book of sportsmen's adventures, twenty-three tales of true survival, or something along those lines. It talked a lot about Canada, how there were parts of the forests that still haven't been explored by man. (this book was a bit old.) And it talked a LOT about how great the fishing was. If you listened to the stories in that book, it's impossible to get skunked in Canadian creeks and rivers. It talked a lot about black flies, too, and about rogue bears, and people getting lost; but all I could ever think was: I wanted to go to Canada just so I could hike through the uncharted woods and catch as many trout as I could carry.

Then, as an adult, I found out about Canadian health care, and I'm like...I should move there!

:biggrin2:

There are still areas that have not been explored. My half-a-step sister's son gets dropped by helicopter into the middle of nowhere to....well...I don't actually know what he does. Tests soils and water. He's an ecologist. Then he's picked up a week or two later.

That sounds like an awesome job. I wanted to be a survivalist when I was younger, and the interest never really faded. I would love to be able to spend some time out in the middle of nowhere, living off the land, with only my horse and dog for company. But there's nowhere here in the states that lets you do that. That I know of, at least. Besides, anyone I talk to about that little dream looks at me like I'm either joking or insane, so I've learned to just be quiet about it.

Only problem I have with Canada .. is winter. hahahaha no thank you.
It helps if you have a nice warm winter hat (or 'toque', as some call them):

I don't think horses like helicopters. ;) unlikely he would be allowed to take a dog either.

I was talking to his mom one time, and he had not been where he was supposed to be for pick-up. Depending where he is, there is a set protocol for how long before the helicopter returns. It ended up being almost two weeks after the original pick-up before they actually found him. He knows how to live off the land though, so he was completely fine.

He also does this in other countries.

Sounds like that Bear Grylls guy - I just bought Andy a multitool (Gerber) that also came with a fire starter

He got a chuckle out of it - he used to be in the British Army so he may already know how to fend for himself in the wilderness:umm:
