The good news is everybody is okay!

Now, before you think this is my fault, let me explain. I was driving through my school parking lot to leave, and another teacher backed out of his space and hit me! You guys know how much I love my little car...but I took it surprisingly well. Could be worse; could be raining (Young Frankenstein). No one was hurt, and I believe this has actually taught me (yes, I am teachable) to slow down. My car is made for speed, but not for wrecks.

Any tips on insurance, body work, etc. are welcome!

Thank you, sir. I think they'll just have to replace the bumper--no body damage maybe.
Will pass on something you might check for when you get it fixed. My wife rear ended a vehicle a number of years ago. Our insurance covered both vehicles, we went and got quotes, etc. After the body shop fixed her front bumper, I got up underneath the car to check their work, all they fixed was the cosmetic damage....Underneath the bumper you could still see bent metal on both sides of the bumper. I called them out on it, manager tried to say "the technician must have not understood the instructions"....I called bull$h!t. I refused to write them a check until it was fixed, made a mental note to never use that body shop again...

It may have taught you to slow down but perhaps the other guy might be the one at "fault" (that is if we need to assign blame?)

Here in Manitoba the person at fault has to pay the deductible and the other ones gets their vehicle fixed through something we call "Autopac".

Just glad you are okay and nobody got hurt!

What year is that? Looks like just the bumper cover and the apron and flap needs to be replaced but it's hard to tell. Lots of clips and rivets holding that in place. The parts/new/factory and painted alone are probably 600.00 bucks. Used or replacement half that. The quote will be 2k with the labor I bet. Maybe not where you're at.... Maybe a little lower. I've fixed a bumper cover or two. If it was me, I'd get the check and fix it my self. I'd save/make 500-1000 bucks. If you can't, just go through the process. It will be as good as new. Glad you or the other person were not hurt.
Slow down. It's an omen.

Thank you. If I get to take it to the body shop I've used in the past, I know them and can trust them.

Oh, it's definitely the other guy's fault, and I wasn't speeding at all--just leaving the parking lot.
What I meant was, seeing the damage just a little bump at 5 mph can do to my car made me realize how much damage would be done if I were to wreck going.....well, going as fast as I normally do. I would be dead, in other words.

The teacher who hit me is a super nice guy who felt terrible because he knows how much I love my car. There will be no trouble getting his insurance to pay for it all.
