Did you all notice there were no notes in the back for this one?
I was genuinely happy at the end of this story. I wonder if the teeth will eventually get angry at his new 'owner' or if the son will get a different response.
I didn't want him to take back the teeth! I felt they could turn on him too! I was super uneasy about that...
Morgan, I was white knuckling too;the storys pace seemed to be pretty quick.
That never occurred to me until this current re-read. Just "ass-umed"
Even though the drive through the sand storm was slow-the story was not!!
When he first saw the teeth, I felt like they were ok. Weird, I know!
I can understand why. In that same thought, wondered if they would decide to take a chomp out of the son or of the wife.
I was a tad uneasy about his fixation with them, but didn't think they'd play that big of role in the story!
I guess I just took my vibe from the narrator. He was sure of them (except from some uncertainty during the storm/wreck/etc.) and they proved themselves then!
I think this is one story I would like to know what happened after they went home in the pocket. Were they blood thirsty little buggers, or did they think they were avenging misdeeds, or were they full and wanted to loosen the guy since he 'rescued' them from the Mom and Pop shop?
And, once again, why didn't SK add any notes about this story?
I think if they were really blood thirsty, they would have kept the guy in his seat so he could come back to eat him later.
You know what? I think it's placement. I didn't like "it grows on you" and I did this one, very much. I think, I was more sympathetic to the narrator.
Yes, they saved him, but that wasn't enough to make me feel good about him reclaiming the chattery teeth!

Don't you think it's strange that SK adds notes about the other short stories and not this one? I don't know if there were any others excluded though...
