I've been a fan since the early nineties. I saw them opening for Guns N Roses in '92 in Rotterdam and was standing in front of the stage. Chris Cornell spat from the stage, right on my head. At the time i thought that was really cool, bragged to all my friends, '' Chris Cornel spat in my hair!'' Now i would find that really disgusting of course...:)
If it is suicide, and it's really starting to look that way, it's really tragic. I was watching the YouTube clips from the last Soundgarden show in Detroit, hard to believe he actually committed suicide a few hours later...
First - yeah, that's pretty cool for a kid, but I would be a bit grossed out now myself! Great story, though!;-D

Second - I will go ahead and just voice that while many reports are saying a possible suicide, it could have been just a tragic accident. Thinking of Michael Hutchence of INXS.

The band just did a show in Detroit last night, and the last song they did was 'Slaves And Bulldozers'. That is my ringtone on my phone.
Two places in Detroit are saying it was sucide. I do not believe that at all. He loved his wife, and kids to much to do that. It can't be drugs either, because he quit doing all that in 2002.

I am not an expert, and I do not even understand how anyone could commit suicide, but I have had to accept the fact that some things may drive a person to do it without it meaning they do not love their close ones. That may be the saddest part of all, that they do it even despite all the love they have.

I knew a guy that killed himself. It was the weirdest thing because I was talking to him hours before he did it and had no clue anything was wrong. He drove a freight truck and was getting ready to leave for a few days on a job and he was running around all day making preparations to be gone. He was making all of his preparations like he fully intended to leave the next morning. He was divorced but still friendly with his ex and had a 16 year old son that he was very close to. I was shocked when I heard the news the next morning. You just never know what demons are lurking in someones head.

It has been announced that it was suicide by hanging.
I want to know why. What the hell happened that made him do this?
I hope I have answers soon.
I know his wife wasn't with him, because she got someone to check on him. That was the person that found him.
My heart feels like it is going to burst I am so beyond sad.

mary-peg - I thought of you at 5:45am when I saw the newsfeed. RIP handsome talented Chris Cornell. I loved his voice.

What I can say about suicide is that something in his heart must have truly believed everyone he loved would be better off without him. That's been my experience with it. It's going to be hard on his wife, kids and parents for certain. Peace to all.

Not everyone has endorphins, seratonin, oxytocin skipping happily through their brain. There is a condition psychiatrists call chemical imbalance. The cause of suicide isn't always logical or one single event that results in such a desperate act. Diagnosis isn't always easy or clear cut. No, I'm not a doctor. I was a person who suffered from major depression. I overcame much of what caused those terrible feelings of hopelessness and helplessness that don't go away by themselves. It took years. It took professional help. I'm not saying everyone who has committed suicide had a chemical imbalance in their brain. It's complicated. It can be overcome with a lot of work and the right people working with the afflicted person. Or it worked in my case.

....Mary, like the others-I knew this would devastate you as soon as I got the updates.....as a survivor of suicide in my family, let me gently suggest you refrain from listening to all the speculation and the "experts" that will come out of the woodwork to "explain" why this happened....there is no explanation....suicide is the ultimate act of selfishness and only truly hurts those left behind... I wish peace during your grieving and may his family draw close to one another and be one another's rocks. Chris's amazing voice will live on in his work, this is a truly black day for rock & roll......

Right now I am feeling very angry with him for doing this instead of seeking help with whatever was bothering him.
This has affected millions of people.
I hurt for Vicky, and the kids. His son is named after him.

Please don't be angry with him. I know people who suffer from depression. They may recognise and want help, but sometimes the chemical-imbalance in their brains dictate otherwise. I mourn with his family and millions of fans worldwide.
