The book; did watch the movie and liked it but not as much.

I would have to say the movie. The thing that I find is that the movie was scarier for different reasons, because I don't want to give away any kind of spoiler. There is something about reading though, where the imagination is your limit, as oppose to a movie, where there are limits to budget and production and acting capability.
