....at my home went from bare to there.
This is a teaser. I'll post the full effect when it's dark and I've had a chance to take photographs using nothing but Christmas tree lights for the illumination.

More when decorations, including the famous birdman Lance, are complete.

The fat man's comin', y'all. :biggrin-new:

Very nice indeed.

I'm moving house in January, so a token effort is all I've managed this year. There's a tree and some tinsel hanging over a couple of picture frames.

Packing everything I own into cardboard boxes is arduous enough without all the Christmas gear to pack and unpack as well!

Humbug.

Moving blows.

But Merry Christmas (or Happy Christmas, whichever you prefer) anyway.

Do you sing or play carols as you put up the tree? We do sometimes. Tree is still down, probably will go up tomorrow. But am starting to a be in a holiday mood more as some of the carols we are practicing for choir stir me.

Haven't started Christmas shopping yet (little dough sucks), but think I may do homemade stuff.

I do turn the TV to the music channels and listen to holiday music ever now and then. I even listen in the car and sing along.

We turn on the TV to music station. I sing, my son tells me to stop. Hubby is tone deaf and doesn't even try to carry a tune just gets really busy with the lights. I don't usually listen to carols in the car as my cd is normally busy with stories or non-fiction from the library. The last book I just finished is Stay Close by Harlen Coben.

gotta tell a bit about s:t Lucia. Don't know is she is celebrated at all in in other places. But here, every 13 of december she is. She goes slowly forward wearing a crown of burning lights accompanied by her maidens that each holds a light and they sing Lucia songs and christmas songs. They go through the town to churches, kindergarten, homes for the older and schools and sing and distribute small godies like "pepparkaka" (think that may be gingerbread in english but it is hard and crispy.

This how it looks like. It is traditional that the lights should be down because she is our light in the darkness. In our tradition she has blond hair (has to do with the light) but original had probably black or brown hair since she came from Sicily. She was a martyr there about 300 or so. She was burned by the Romans. Lucia means bringer of light.

Thanks for sharing, Kurben. The procession of lights must be lovely to see.

...wow Lily!...your place makes mine look like a complete hovel.....we have a couple of poinsettia placemats out and a mini-live Christmas tree on the table...and the tree has become the life's purpose of my cat Calvin-he is deforesting it every chance he gets...and to be fair, we aren't in a rush, because my son has leave AFTER Christmas,we'll be having our gathering then-so we can just kind of plug along till he gets here...also, I'm just very melancholy and out of sorts about decorating at all this season...not sure why...I honestly could give a good rip if we EVER decorate, and that bugs me-coz I'm a professional grump & curmudgeon but not a Humbug...

Must be lovely, both the lights and the pepparkakor (lol). We used to be able to buy them at Christmastime from Restoration Hardware, but they closed :( Must remember to make an IKEA trip before the big day--lol.

Beautiful!

Also ...
I will not look up the recipe for pepparkaka. I won't. At least, I will try very hard not to.

That's pretty cool but I must say the crown of candles makes me very nervous!
