I was dreamin' when I wrote this
Forgive me if it goes astray
But when I woke up this mornin'
Could of sworn it was judgment day

The sky was all purple
There were people runnin' everywhere
Tryin' to run from the destruction
You know I didn't even care

'Cause they say two thousand fourteen
Party over, oops out of time
So tonight I'm gonna party like it's 1779

It wouldn't knock out the whole world's grid. A lot would depend on the placement of the Earth. The "huge" event in 1989 only affected Quebec. The majority of our planet is actually ocean and unpopulated areas, and only small percentage of populated land would be in the line of fire for a given time. So that 12% figure (1 in 8) needs to be further reduced by other factors.

Not to mention we are now in the weakest solar cycle in many years. The usual ebb and flow of these typically sees a long period of calm after a series of CMEs. The real thing to watch to determine if increased solar activity will be coming is the amount, size and intensity of sunspots and sunquakes.

Current Solar Activity Cycle Is Weakest in a Century

Back in 2012, a powerful solar storm just missed planet Earth. Two large clouds of plasma, called coronal mass ejections, were released by the Sun. If the blast had occurred a week earlier we’d be toast, destroying most of the electrical gear. We’d still be picking up the pieces and the total economic impact would be estimated at $2 trillion.

Eat, drink and be merry... you never know what tomorrow holds.

Taking a page from the Dio handbook...

This is all NObama's fault!

Oh, almost forgot... ;)

No No No! It’s got to be Bush’s fault. Statute of limitations on blaming GWB has been extended to 16 years now I hear.

Well, at a minimum it's Dick Cheneys’ fault as he's continuing his efforts to destroy the world you know. :)

Oh great! Now Prince is gonna come on here with his pack of rabid lawyers and threaten to sue us if we don not remove those lyrics from the sight! (You know he does this when ever someone puts one of his videos up there, right? Seriously. He does this all of the time. He's even gone after the website Prince.org, which is one of the biggest fan sights out there. Love his music but the man is whack-a-doodle!)

If that's the case, then a moderator should remove it. I'd gather the mods would only want to deal with one whack-a-doddle at a time. :)

I was being my usual sarcastic self with my post. He only does it when someone posts a video of his somewhere. Can't imagine what he's thinking- the only way anymore to get people to listen to your music is to have a video of it (thanks MTV!) and if they can't see your vid's then they ain't gonna buy your tunes!

The Darkside of the Moon (England really)
I just read this today and thought "why wait 2 years to tell us, why not the day after it missed?" But then I thought "you know, I bet people get scared enough from this news even now, that they start building apocalypse bunkers. And I bet it's in America" :)

This has happened before and will almost certainly happen again, the aurora borialis displays would be breathtakingly spectacular, last time it happened there were reports of it being seen in southern Italy. So all of little old England would see it. The downside would be things like life support machines and other medical equipment, antivenom and insulin fridges, as vampirelily pointed out, back up generators will only last so long, and it won't be a quick fix.

Riot, this wouldn't kill everyone instantly, but if we get hit by a gamma ray burst, which is a possibility - an extremely small one - that would be curtains, and those who survive would be dosed in lethal radiation due to the dilapidation of the ozone layer.

Anyway, cheery thoughts.
