I think this is the very first time I have actually been on a message board, and I feel kind of vulnerable, but what the heck...I used to read King when I was younger, but fell out of practice. Recently I took up again, and noticed something weird happening. I live with other people in my house, so naturally I don't always have quiet solitude for reading. Why is it that so many times what I am reading on the page is also being said on the television, or in a conversation, or, I don't know, on the radio? I don't know how many times I stop reading and show my husband the same words on page as what was spoken on tv or in conversation. It happens ALL THE TIME. It's kinda freaking me out. I've mentioned it to co-workers that it keeps happening, too. I need to know if this happens to other people while reading as well. I've noticed these things happen before, with other authors, small amounts, but recently, while reading King, it's ridiculous. Happens all the time. My husband insists it's just coincidence, but i think there is something else going on here. Freaky!

We prefer the vulnerable, especially the lady ones. Now if you'l just tilt yer head and expose that vein...

I experience the same phenomenon you describe, despite not having a TV on and no one else in the house. Sometimes while reading and becoming distracted, which is my perhaps ADD way, and having thought something unrelated to the reading will proceed to read a similar or verbatim thought. And sometimes my very thought will be announced on the TV or stereo, or the radio while I'm driving. I don't take these mysteries lightly though I kind of have gotten used to them.

I can't say they happen more so while I'm reading sK as opposed to another author, though of course if I'm usually reading him it will happen more with him. BTW, and not to be corrective, some CRs use with poetic license the term ka-incidence, for obvious reasons.

Welcome aboard, yes that happens to me all the time! Not just SK but any time I'm reading anything. I guess our minds are trained to look for patterns so we ignore the thousands of times where external information doesn't sycnh up with what we're reading, and then the coincidences really jump out at us!

I've often had a similar phenomenon when looking at a large list of names and suddenly one name will jump out at me because it's mine or someone I know.

Welcome to SKMB - I hope you enjoy posting here! Stephen King puts lots of references to popular culture and whatever pops into his head (it seems) so it's not unusual to have this happen (these freaky coincidences) - I say just enjoy them while you can. He is an excellent writer.

p.s. I wonder if this is a coincidence?

Well obviously they were copying King, not the other way around, as the King book was out way before Avatar. We did see Avatar at the Imax Theatre and it was just awesome on that huge screen with surround sound. Plus it was in 3D so we actually went to see it twice.
