Four university students have invented a nail polish that not only looks pretty, but doubles as a discreet date rape drug detector. The polish, called Undercover Colors, has the ability to detect common date rape drugs Rohypnol, GHB and Xanax. Women who wear the polish simply stir their drink with their finger and if a drug is detected, the polish changes color.

The North Carolina University chemistry students said they were inspired to invent the product after learning an estimated one in five American women will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime. “While date rape drugs are often used to facilitate sexual assault, very little science exists for their detection,” “Our goal is to invent technologies that empower women to protect themselves from this heinous and quietly pervasive crime.”
