Ruapehu, New Zealand
Mount Ruapehu is perched in the Taupo Volcanic Zone on New Zealand's North Island. Not only does Ruapehu boast some of the North Island’s highest and most scenic volcanic peaks, it is also one of the world's most active volcanoes, with warnings and eruptions occurring regularly over the past decade. Despite this, the area is popular with tourists. Commercial ski resorts do a brisk trade on the slopes, and nature and adventure seekers flock to the area. Mountain cabins and huts are available for trekkers and hikers who want to climb up the slopes and onto the glaciers that cover much of the upper part of the volcano. This is arguably one of the easiest volcanoes to visit because of the number of tourist facilities and the high quality of the local infrastructure.
