It is a Japanese Phi flower......a type of Camellia. Also known as "The Nautilus Shell"

When we were in Japan in 2014 we went to a Buddist temple where they had the most beautiful dahlias. To maximise their life and beauty the monks had positioned individual umrellas over the blooms to protect them from the rain. If I rememeber when I get home I will try and post a picture.
