Roses really are beautiful, aren't they? Wish I could grow them like that.....

The pictures of the roses were taken out in front of my apartment building. One of the tenants planted
them years ago and believe it or not those bushes are over 5 feet high. Other than water the only
thing he puts on them is used coffee grounds, around the base of the plant.

I'm going to try that then. I have two rose bushes (ha bushes! they're more like sticks, quiet Sunny) that haven't flowered in, well, probably three years at least. Tried a bunch of different fertilizers, but never coffee grounds. I prune them like they say to as well. Thanks for the tip!

When you prune them do you cut the piece (straight across) just in front of a new, healthy leaf?
That helps too, he said. Not sure where you live and what kind of winter
you get, but he always covers the bushes with burlap before the first
frost. He cuts the entire bush back to about 8 inches in height in the
Fall.

I prune back half the new growth in the fall and cut out anything dead as well. Also get rid anything that hasn't greened up by the middle of June or so the following spring. I do try to leave the new leaves yes, but to be honest, I probably don't always get a straight cut. I've used burlap and those Styrofoam rose cones too cover them during our sometimes brutal winters.
