Really not sure about this one but I don't think it would be. Sounds like he's taking used books, making his own dust jacket, and then selling them. Anyone can sell a used book and if he's doing his own original artwork for the dust jacket, that's not a copyright infringement.

I thought by posting this Ms Mod would notice.

John

Just wanted to make sure Mod saw this. Sometimes office gets busy.

And now that I have back-up, I don't read every single post so if the thread posts had already been moderated, I might not have read this unless I had an alert or a new post came up on my watch. :smile2:

Ms Mod, the seller has a used (perhaps VERY used book) that he's selling with the facsimile dust jacket. As you said, though, it probably falls under the exclusion. Still iffy to me though.

John
That's the direction it seems to be leaning in but I may need to contact the seller to make sure that's what's happening. The description really isn't clear whether the buyer would be getting the actual book that the title belongs with.

And, speaking of copyright infringement...

Didn't Step Henking infringe on the copyrights of all those books he made his kids read into the tape recorder?

Say your Meth dealer is out of town, so you buy some Sudafed to make your own...for your "personal use".

Skewed analogy, but in both cases...the end product is illegal.

Whatever his intentions, it was the reproduction that was the infringement. Even "Books for the Blind" need permission from the publisher.

My point was made.
Despite the fact that Mr. King relies on these copyright laws for his livelihood, he infringed on the rights of others and "outed himself" for the sake of an amusing anecdote.

Sometimes, even moderators are misinformed.

Dude, as long as he is not making money from it or using material to teach classes where he would get paid, he is not infringing. He can do what he wants with books for his own private use .
