Anyone else watching it?

Grandma and I saw the original series when it first came out, before we were Grand. I thought Carl Sagan could be a little overblown, but the series was eminently well done, scaled to the average listener without being dumbed down. In fact, we liked it so much that we bought the book.

We were quite interested in the reboot with Neil deGrasse Tyson. Grandma liked the first episode fine, but I was just a little - a little - let down by what I thought was way too much time spent on the Bruno affair. Yes, it was wrong, yes he was burned alive for not being orthodox, now let's move on, because it's a big cosmos.

But at the end was a very poignant piece when Tyson was eulogizing Sagan a little, and he had Sagan's diary with a note in it "Neil Tyson." As a college student, Tyson had met Sagan, and Sagan had afforded him a wonderful level of courtesy and respect. It was quite touching and poignant and led up nicely to the next episode.

The next episode was really quite good and made me forget about the small lapses in the first one. At the end of it, they replayed an evolution animation, quite elegant, that was developed for the original series. It still holds up today.

One nitpick: They're more enamored with their other animation than I, but it doesn't show up that often.

Quite enjoyable so far. Very much looking forward to the third.
