I'm not sure how to wrok my way around this message board yet, so I just thought I'd post something that bothered me until just recently. I decided that I was going to replace all my King books. I think I prefer paperbacks, but have recently started buying hardcovers as well; the newer ones look a lot cooler than the older ones. But I was annoyed that publishers start to release all the books with a series of covers (paperbacks) and then change them - sometimes before they have all been released - and then start again! I love the covers by Hodder, and my collection is growing! Has this issue bothered anyone else? Or is it just me.
Being English, most of my books are from Hodder/Hodder & Staughton/NEL (all ahve been part of the same company at some point) but I think getting every book the same style is going to be damn near impossible, for starters Colorado Kid and Joyland are Hardcrime, I quite like my books being a mixed bag, but the dark tower annoyed me a bit with the last 3 having a slightly different text layout, and my part 7 being a trade paper back, but that's the peril of preowned online buying.

Here is my bookshelf with examples of Hodder/NEL being the same company but having vastly different styles.

That picture is old, now it is only SK books, and it doesn't have space for whatever book I am currently reading.

Welcome Boo'ya,

The book covers are a tantalizing taste of whats to come. They are like clothing to me. Could be ritzy, glitzy, plain, tattered or gimicky..it really doesn't matter. I am not considered 'high maintenence' and really don't need what I read to be. It is the words inside that count.
Ooh, I like a tattered book. See my IT, the last few pages and back cover are stuck in place with tape.

As far as collecting I am sort of picky but there isn't much you can do about it. My copy of Four Past Midnight in paperback, the cover is gone.. My old school Pet Semetary edition, the cover is taped on and cracked lol. I still like to have them but I'll definitely keep an eye out for better editions. I also like to have both hardback and paperback editions when I can, so for me collecting can be a headache, and a lot of stress when really it shouldn't be.
Back before I stopped reading years ago ( probably around 2006 or so, cause I finished CELL when it was still new ) I remember buying a lot of the newer editions from the book store at the mall, Krogers & Walmart. As of right now today, I'm not sure they are the "newest" versions but they were then. I need to get out to the book store in the mall and see what they have. For instance, I have an old yellow copy of Different Seasons, and a newer copy with grey on the cover.. I have an old school copy of Christine, and the newer edition with a lot of Orange on the cover, and the broken up skull looking thingy lol...

As far as hardbacks go, I'm slowly starting up my collection again, but I used to have most all of the old ones. Firestarter was in a nice white cover ( looked to me to be the original edition ) Cujo had the big print of the dog on the front, ( also looked to be the main edition ) Misery/Dolores Claiborne/Needful Things/Nightmares & Dreamscapes, all those are the most popular edition you see floating around. So im guessing I had mostly the older ( original ? ) editions, which are my favorite. I'd rather find those instead of newer prints. Or at least find most of those BEFORE I started getting into the newer editions... If there is even new editions of the classics in hardback..

The Salem's Lot edition, the hardback black cover one that looks to be the 1st edition, are those rare and expensive? For that book I only have the white paperback edition, with the ( girl? ) on the cover and the 2 vampire bites.. The hardback edition of The Shining, with the family members on the cover, is that one rare too?

I'm not a very picky person but it feels like I have OCD when it comes to collecting lol!

Ever notice that the gaudier and shinier the cover of the book, the worse writting it holds?
This book has quite a shiny cover. I think the writing behind that cover is pretty swell! :)

I like to see all the different covers. I do collect some but no way do I collect them all.
On the board before this one I saw all the pictures you had on your profile page and I was quite impressed - you have an extensive collection!
In one you can see a reflection of a man in the display case and at first I thought you were a guy! @king family fan

I don't really care about the covers, EXCEPT in series. I'm pissed my 'Wind through the Keyhole' doesn't match my other DT books :p But they just didn't make it like that :(
This does not really bother me at all but then again I am still carrying the Drawing of the Three around in my bag at the moment. I read WTTK first :stupid:
