Well, the Creative Writing Study Group is about as ready as it's ever going to be -- all 236 pages of it. I've made it with the idea that unless one is truly gifted, a rare occurrence, one should at least become literate if one wants to be an author.

I've spent most of my time getting it developed. I must say, I was surprised by how much I DON'T know while constructing it. Even though it's been quite a job, I'm enthused about seeing where it leads. Even if no one else uses it, I will. So at least I have gotten that out of the project.

Fellow writing students who want to study are welcome. It helps to have other people to learn with.

I read the beginning of "Anne of Green Gables" and was impressed by how Montgomery began the book. Outstanding!! She used a stream to show the personality of a character. So, I thought I'd give a shot at doing something similar. I placed what I wrote on a conversation I tried to get going, but it didn't really go anywhere. Here's the link to the page on this site that has the passage I wrote Getting the Words Right | The StephenKing.com Message Board

But I got thinking about what I had written, and it seemed like the beginning of a story. So, I decided to go for it. Here's what I came up with:

I'm working on a story I began a couple of years ago. I pretty much have it outlined-- I know what is going to happen in it. But I'm taking a different approach to it now, and the story abruptly goes from one narrative style to another, as if it were written by two different people. And I don't have a clue what to do about it.

Any constructive suggestions from a competent writer?

This is where I place my writing. I'm a competent writer with a good imagination. I'm still learning to write, so it might be fun for pleasant people to come along and see me develop my craftsmanship over time.

It's also good for me. Knowing people are reading one's work is an incentive to do a decent job of it, as well as an encouragement to continue.

Stop by if you have time. I'll place links to my new stories as I write them.

Count me in, Big D. I'm in bed with the Flu today, fever and various fluids running out of me in mass exodus. :barf:

Read Plan 9 from Texas. Sounds like fun.

Hey, are you reading the Halloween Story on this site?

I just read the first parts of the Halloween Story. Interesting idea to do that.

Sorry to hear about your flu. It's a mighty miserable condition to be in. Hope you get over it soon.

Chapter 5 of Plan Nine from Texas is up. Waltz sets up a secret wing of the movie studio in the lobotomy wing of Humboldt "Rehab Center." The nurses, doctors, and patients are keen on pitching in and making a film version of Joseph Conrad's "Almayer's Folly" a reality. Frederick's medication has finally kicked in, and he's "stable." Waltz is resting comfortably but needs extra straitjackets to stay warm.
