Not really a contest between these three. Pet Sematary is head and shoulders above the other two in terms of intensity and horror. Second would be Cujo - have to mention a stellar performance by Dee Wallace in the under-appreciated movie version. Christine is OK but it never turned my crank the way the other two do.

I thought the CUJO movie was fine up until the end... which was totally WRONG!

I think this KingAHolic person is trying to kill us! ;;D
It was tough but in the end I went with Cujo because it was one of the first I read as a kid and this battered paperback cover scared me.

Not kill... just challenge! Cujo will always hold a special place for me as well.... Christine was my least fave of the 3... ironic I don't much care for "car" themed stories by SK, and my pic is a CAR!

I had to go with Pet Sematary. I didn't find scary, but very sad. Cujo would be my second pick. Christine I had trouble getting into. I believe it was partly due to the fact my mom was going through chemotherapy at the time and I read most of while she was having treatments.

I was thinking about that the other day. I read SK religiously up until around when he was releasing the Green Mile books. I have just recently started reading his works again, and, realized how much I had forgotten about his books and the detail, EXCEPT for Pet Sematary and Cujo. I never thought of Cujo as one of my favorites, but the details have stuck with me.

I can't vote in this survey due to my begin a relative philistine about early sK stuff, as I've yet to read either Cujo or Christine. Pet Sematary's fantastic, imho, and an absolute must-read-asap for any CR.

My first pick would have be Pet Semetary, however, Cujo surpassed that even though there is sentimental value to me for PS. It was my first, but Cujo was the first book I reread in my adulthood that scared the living hell out of me. Maybe I blocked that book out in my teen years, but I didn't remember it being that scary. Love, love these books though, tough choice!
What about the newer ones. I have to say, Joyland and Revival are my unexpected favorites.

They're all brilliant, but I'd have too say Pet Sematary, just because of the first 100 pages of the novel, which I still think is the most frightening I've ever read anywhere. Is it true that the novel Pet Sematary is banned in Germany?

Pet Sematary easily for me. I've been reading some old books about Stephen King, and before he released it, he said he was planning on never releasing it because it was just too scary.
Still one of my favorite King books. He pulls no punches and things do not end well in that book.
