Hi all,

I seriously need to get down to some work and stop procrastinating...I'm guessing we've all been there, so much to do and the thought of getting started, well, that's the tough part. I would appreciate any solutions and shared stories of procrastination.

Here I am, one week left of my holidays and so much lesson planning to do, let alone the couple of writing comps I wanted to enter....aargh! help! somebody kick me ;;D

I was thinking this too!

ClaireB76 This is me today (and all last week), I am having to do some work from home that requires me to be on the computer all day long. So you know what I do? Play on here most of the day and end up having to work late at night to make up for it. I have to get this done by tomorrow so I can't let that happen today or I'm a goner. The allure of "do nothing" is so appealing it's almost impossible to fight. Good luck to you! Wish me luck as well!

I know it probably won't help you-- but just the thought of my father's tone in voice: Do NOT put off till tomorrow what you should be doing today!!!!! That does it for me every time I want to put something off.:eyebrow:

Haha! That's a pretty good tip! :) I should keep that in mind--with the thought of my dad's voice! That will sure keep me in line!;-D

I'm the worst procrastinator I've ever heard of. I've studied human behavior focusing on my own and have learned of a few ideas about dealing with procrastination which amount to being hypotheses as yet. They could be proven theories were I to apply one or any of them. Actually, I think the only cure for procrastination is to realize that it's presence is in one's mind only, and that it is due to the fear of failure. I don't know about other procrastinators but I assume some of my procratstination comes via the fact that I'm a perfectionist. Perfectionists by definition fear failure and the nature of fear is to paralyze or panic. Most people faced with chores don't choose to run screaming into the street, but some do become paralyzed. The C word in its raw state is that horrible.

What has helped me has been to change my thinking about what the (hiss) chore demands; try to see what it actually is in reality as opposed to what it is in my, for lack of a better word, mind. Granted, certain (damn) chores may literally never get done, they are so hideous; they require at least one other person for support of some kind; someone with the unique talent of dusting, for instance. That's why I think when God saw Adam sitting there by himself He said, "This is not good." So, some things can indeed wait. Once this idea is realized, time management is born, and duties start automatically forming into lists; but only if we let them. If we get scared again, then it all goes back into what it was, a world of fear where all things are equally terrifying and overwhelming.
