I've read it. I'm not a big Holmes fan, so I didn't care that much for it. You really have to have read the Holmes stories before reading this one. It's been just too long for me to remember much about Doyles' works.

John
Well, i'm pretty well scholed in at least Doyles Holmes stuff. Have read all of it even if i don't remember them all. I still think Holmes lost alot of his sparkle in the latter collections. Will be interesting to see what Simmons made out of him. Saw a relatively recent movie (sherlock?) that was, i thought, horrible but it was a success so what do i know, right?

My favorites by him are definitely Hyperion and Fall of Hyperion. Haven't read the third yet.

I've also read Carrion Comfort and Drood. I wasn't crazy about Drood, but can't deny that the dude's got some big ole' writing chops on him.

I've got Summer of Night but haven't started it yet.

Apparently AMC is making a TV series based on his Abominable (is that the right name of it? Anyway, the historical-fiction one about an exploration to the arctic).

The Abominable is about climbing Mount Everest. The Terror is about the exploration of the Arctic. I don't know which is being made into a TV series (I don't follow these things.)

Summer of Night is quite good. A Winter Haunting was also not a bad follow up!

Does anyone have a copy of the errata sheet that came with The Fall Of Hyperion and if so, can you make a copy and send it to me? I will reimburse you for the postage!!

I'm just now catching up on all y'alls posts :) I didn't know what an errata sheet was so I googled it. I don't have one myself but found them at AbeBooks. They cost $3 but shipping is like $5 :(

I put down Hyperion in order to read one of SK's new releases. I think I'll begin again from the start. I found a map online so I can follow the adventure more easily :)

Ohhh, I still need that. I think I need the 1st two in the series, but would take them all. You are probably tired of them on your shelf. That's okay, I will release that burden and let you offer them to me for practically nothing because I care so much. ;-D

Subterranean Press has just announced that they are going to published two (!!!) new signed limited's of Dan's work- a signed/limited of Summer Of Night (two versions, prices are rather steep, too much for my budget right now) and a trade ($20) and signed/limited ($50) of the Novella This Year's Class Picture which is one of the best zombie tales out there! If you preorder now shipping is free (in the US).

I have read The Terror and in the process of reading Summer of Night. Both the types of books that I really should have enjoyed but have to admit that I've struggled getting through them. Summer of Night is particularly bizarre. A bit like a misguided version of It. I'm not sure if it his writing style or character development but something with Simmons doesn't cut it for me. When I start page counting to the end it is not a good sign.

I started Summer of Night tonight ( first 3 chapters). I am really liking it so far. I loved the terror. That being said , reading through Simmons thick vocabulary and dialect is more of a process for me, then when I read others authors.

Sometimes I think Simmons is out to impress his readers with his vocabulary. But, that said, he is an educated man and taught for some years, his students were exceptional ones, meaning the brainy type. I enjoy his novels, even if sometimes he goes abit beyond my intellectual threshold. I remember the second time I met him, as I handed a book to him for signing, he looked up at me and asked me a question about something and I had no idea what he was talking about. Talk about being embarrassed! Sometimes his words don't quite 'flow', but the tale is always good. On another note, now that Leonardo DiCaprio has scored an Oscar, maybe the filming of Hyperion will begin. Dan told us years ago that the star of a movie about a ship hitting an iceberg and the director of said movie were interested in filming Hyperion. He couldn't name them as the contract hadn't been signed as of yet.....
