New here, just short question, I have read almost every King book. However tried to read Dark Tower when it first came out and just couldn't thought it was horrible and jumpy. Anyone else understand...Should I try again?
Sure - go for it - I was not keen on the first book - (the Gunslinger) but it gets better as you progress through the other books.

Welcome to the SKMB! I think you should when you feel ready try the DT books again, but you don't have to start with The Gunslinger, which a number of CRs have found a little difficult.

I have only read part of one and it was like a preview in another book. In my opinion it depends on the mindset you are in are you ready to start a new world which will require some patience or do you want a story. I am not ready for a new world so I wont start what I cant finish. But I am crazy like that.

No, you're right on. Anyone contemplating the DT realizes the commitment included. This factor must be faced, so I say read one book, see how it goes (which is why I say don't start with Gunslinger since it's apparently difficult and since it's quite different from the others).

Welcome! Try starting with the revised edition of The Gunslinger. I found it flowed much better and kept my attention better. I'm going to get some grief from the die hard fans who loved the first one but what the heck. If it gets you to read the entire series it's worth it.
No-grief, no-grief, no-grief. I did this just prove your prediction wrong.

Same with me. And what Staro said. The Drawing of the Three is when it took off for me.

I tried for a very long time to read the series, it only took joining this board and seeing all of the praise that I made up my mind to get through the first book.

Now I consider myself very lucky (and somewhat guilty) to have read them all in a row.

Constant Readers had to wait years between books. I am pretty sure that our Ms. Mod has a dedication and thank you in one of the books for gently pushing him to finish the next one. (I am pretty sure she was tired of fan questions) :smile2:

(Just wait till you meet Oy!) :love_heart:

Welcome. Horrible and jumpy? I assume "horrible" in the sense of eliciting horror, and "jumpy" in the sense that time skips and jumps in The Dark Tower. I recommend two aspirin, a nap and read early in the morning. Oh, and please begin with Book 1, The Gunslinger.
Otherwise, you'll really get lost.
