Amber Heard has filed for divorce from Johnny Depp, just days after his mother's death. Then, days after that, pictures started floating around of an abrasion on her face from what she says is Depp smashing his Iphone into her face.

She refused to file charges, or even a report, but within a week after filing for divorce, she went to court to ask for a restraining order and permission to remain in the home.

No glamour, no makeup... and no bruise.

She gets to stay in the marriage home, and she got the restraining order, meaning that he can't come within a hundred yards of his own house.

She didn't get temporary sole custody of the dogs, the Range Rover, or his bank account (spousal support and legal fees), though.

I'm not sure what to make of it all. If there was abuse, why didn't she press charges? Why didn't she at least mention abuse in her divorce papers? She cited irreconcilable differences, not abuse, as the reason she wants a divorce. Why are we hearing about abuse after the fact?

I can't remember any woman ever saying that Johnny hit her. But here's his soon-to-be ex wife saying that he did.

I dunno. I just dunno.

Hi Lepplady, I read he threw his phone and it hit her in her face. I can understand the emotional distress he is under just after his mother dying. He probably did not mean to hit her in the face with the phone, just threw it, but who knows. There was no history of anger/violence in his longer relationship with V. Paradis. Amber seems like a survivor type and will milk it for all it's worth. Team Johnny! (Unless he really is an abuser then Johnny can go marching off...). I like your new avatar...she is growing up way too fast!

I agree. IF he hit her in anger, even accidentally, he's in the wrong. But she should have reported it and pressed charges, not save it up for leverage in a divorce. That makes me wonder about her motives. Makes me wonder if it happened at all. *shrugs* I guess time will tell.
She said somewhere that she's got a video of him attacking her. I'll have to see that an any other evidence before I decide one way or the other. I am leaning toward Team Johnny, though. She seems fishy to me.

Is this the same one who snuck dogs into Australia or NZ? And they did that stupid PSA?

And their relationship started as an affair while he was still with the mother of his child?
Children. Johnny has 2 children, Lily Rose and Jack, with a woman he was involved with for 14 years but never married.
Yup. That's them.
He took up with Amber when they made The Rum Diaries together and married her not long after.

Just some quick thoughts.

Some domestic violence victims are loath to report the violence. Especially if it's been going on for some time. (If he really hit you/abused you/threatened you, why didn't you just leave him? What did YOU do to make him hit you?) ( He was so sorry! He cried. He was so stressed out. He'd been drinking. He promised it would never, ever happen again. I love him. I wanted to try and make it work. The kids...)

The victim, usually a female have little/no means to support themselves and the kid(s).

Being Depp's girlfriend/wife if she says he was violent/abusive his marketability will be negatively impacted=can't make spousal or child support. It will be all over the news and the kid(s) will be negatively impacted.

Maybe she is afraid she won't be believed. After all, he's Johnny Depp. We all know him and love him.

(This has been on the airwaves all of 15 minutes and people are already talking smack about her.)

Just stuff like that. :eyebrow:

I don't know jack about it so I'll shut up and sit down. :)

Have a great holiday weekend!

Hey, Lepp!

Beg pardon. You used some words that sound ... judgemental? Inferring? Do you already have her being some horrid, lying, gold-digger? =D

Peace.

How come Johnny Depp talks like Marlon Brando? When I saw him do that thing as an apology for bringing the dogs into Australia, I thought he looked a bit zonked. Who knows and who cares. I feel sorry for his loss of his mother. He needs space and some things happen. Pre-nups.

Yes. Don't care if you are Johnny Depp or John Smith.
Happens. It does. Just like you said, Sigs.

Yeah. Sorta. Kinda. But I know that I don't know the story. That's why I try to use words like IF.
It's never been completely believable that a beautiful lesbian half his age would have a single cultural reference in common with Johnny Depp outside his bedroom and his wallet. If she were at least straight, I might have bought it. I don't mind an age difference, exactly. I'm older than my Tall Guy. But with that extra factor thrown in, their relationship just never made sense to me.

I'm not blaming the victim. I'm saying outright that I'm not convinced that she is a victim. Not a single one of his exes has ever said that he hit them. Not that I remember, anyway. I know, it only takes once. IF it happened the way she says it happened, without any mitigating factors from her whatsoever, then she truly has my deepest sympathies. But I'm not willing to believe her at her word when she's got so much to gain.

Money? I doubt that these accusations are going to hurt his bank account. I doubt that it would have hurt her financially to make these accusations public earlier. At least before the divorce. Not after. It's the timing of it that's so wonky to me. In the space of a couple of weeks, he goes from being this wonderful guy to a monster that assaults and terrorizes her... but she only says so publicly after filing for divorce, and after refusing to file a police report.

To not hurt the kids? She did reportedly become close to Lily Rose, so that theory would hold water. If Heard didn't turn around within days and go begging court for a restraining order. I could understand some delay, even mere days, if he presented some ongoing threat, but he's out of the country promoting his film. And Heard has plenty of money with which she could vacate the premises during his absence. He bought her a ranch for her horses in Tennessee, Kentucky, wherever. A different state. She could go there and change the locks until the divorce is settled if she were so afraid of him. Heard is not some battered housewife with nowhere to go and no way to get there. She's got the world at her feet and his money to spend on it. She's lingering in their shared marital home by choice.

I don't presume to demand that what she does should make sense to me. I'm just saying that it doesn't.

I don't like her. It's no secret. I've not cared for her since long before she took up with Johnny, so that's not it. I just don't. She comes across to me as entitled, one of those beautiful people that expects the world to be handed to them on a silver platter because they're beautiful... and it usually is. A bit full of herself, like she can just do (or say) anything she wants and get away with it. I don't care for that quality in a person.

I don't automatically disbelieve her either, though. I don't think she's lying just because I don't like her. It just doesn't add up. The fact that she refused to file a police report (or charges) a week before she filed divorce papers, which must have already been in draft when the police got phoned in. She already knew she was leaving him. So there was nothing to lose. The fact that there's no trace of a bruise on her un-made-up face a week later. It just seems to me like this abuse tidbit, true or not, is something she's saving up as ammunition in a divorce war.

My sniffer tells me this isn't about abuse. It's about money.

Depp didn't get a prenup. She's going to gouge him for everything she can get. He kind of deserves it for thinking with Little Johnny instead of reason, but I hate to see it happen on the heels of his mother's passing like that. Kinda cold-hearted, IMO.

No kids, so she won't get too much. She didn't support him when he was a no-name so she can't say she helped his career. She'll get the house most probably and ten million.

He owns a bunch of properties, including a private island. The only property they got together was the ranch. Still, I think in California, she can try for half of everything he's worth, including the properties, his prior income, everything. I hope she doesn't get all of it. He owned the properties and earned most of the money before he knew her. She's bound to walk away with millions. Not a bad wage for a couple years' work.

I'd get the lawyer that did Paul McCartney's divorce.

Oh. just found this.
NBC said:
Police did respond to reports of a disturbance at the Depp residence in downtown Los Angeles Saturday, the official said. But nobody there was willing to press charges and the officers saw no visible injuries.
No visible injuries. Maybe that's why he's not cooling his heels in jail.

In a community property state (like CA, if they are residents--I have no idea which state they call home) she WILL get half of everything, without a prenup.

I think there might be a 3 year limit in California that a husband and wife must be married before she automatically gets half. Don't quote me, though. They didn't meet that. I hope there's some way he can approach the marriage like a contract she's breaching, somehow.
But even if she does take half of everything, that still leaves him with millions upon millions, so I hope I don't hear him complain. I've got five dollars and thirty-two cents in the bank right now. He'd be breaking my heart.
End snark mode.
