As long as it doesn't go to a site to purchase, you can put up a link or pic of the cover.

The blurb:

No linkies, just a little hopping around happily. I just found out that a copy of History Fair sold in Europe. A few have sold domestically as well. All of this tickles me beyond belief. I published it to establish a copyright, claim this treatment of the story and hopefully get a copy into the right hands. I didn't think I'd actually sell any.
Squee!

2017 is going to see something new from me, by hook or by crook.

First, I'm submitting a project to try and get picked to co-author a book with James Patterson. I've decided to try a near-future dystopian mystery. Who's manipulating the computer system that keeps track of everybody in order to frame a cop for murder? He saw something he shouldn't, and now they want him dead. He’s got to figure out who's pulling the strings and clear his good name before he falls victim to justice, swift and terrible for a crime he didn't commit.

I've got to write a gripping blurb and a compelling sample chapter to submit for the competition and hope I get picked. Ten semi finalists will win $1,000. Three finalists will win $2,500 and be chosen to write outlines for James to read. One winner will get $5,000 and co-author a book with JP.

Whether I win or not, I'm submitting a book or three to agents to try to get picked up. The dystopian one, another called Hausfrau, and the book about the cure for cancer.

If all else fails, I’ll publish on my own imprint. But one way or another, I WILL Have at least one book published this year.

So there.

Thankee. I'd like to say that "Luck is not a factor" but I'm going to need all I can get.

I'm trying to come up with a catchy, interesting blurb. It's not easy condensing a whole book into just a couple of sentences, but it's important. It's mandatory. If I can't describe a book in a blurb, then the story isn't concise enough.

Dorothy Gale, a restless Kansas teen, is whisked away to a magical land over the rainbow and must find her way back home.

Ripley must figure out how to survive being trapped aboard her cargo space ship The Nostromo with a murderous alien that has already wiped out the rest of her crew.

See? It's easy doing it for other, existing works. But when it comes to my own, I'm too tempted to try and tell the whole story. I try to jam-pack everything in, and I just can't do that. I have to distill it. I'm just not sure how to do that. It's so difficult to be objective with my own work.

I know, it's supposed to be easy. Who is my character and what does he have to do? Simple, right?

*sigh* I think I'll stop in at the Cantina for a cuppa, take a couple deep breaths and try again.

Ha. I've got that blurb thing knocked out. All I had to do was go back to my original notes, when I first thought of the barmy thing. All I really had to do was add the guy's name.

In 20197, a chip computer system named Greta that governs the near-Utopian society of America's major cities. Peace officer Gideon Couvier discovers that the system is being used to perpetrate crimes to the highest level of government, sentenced to death on sight, and must clear his name before Greta goes global and there's nowhere left to hide.

Now I have to decide which chapter to write. I don't know if I want to submit the first chapter. The early chapters establish the characters, plot, setting, etc. The blurb does that at the most basic level. That seems repetitive, and I have precious little paper space to work with.

I don't want to use a chapter that's too far along in the book and skip information the reader might need in order to make the chapter relevant and understandable.

And I don't want to use a chapter that might seem like filler or fluff.

I think I've got it picked out, and today's the day to work on it. So I'll be stuffing my face with hot sticky buns and washing them down with coffee while I tap away at my keyboard in the front booth at the Cantina. Wish me luck.
