I haven't been on here in the last 2 years due to losing my mom. I just couldn't function for awhile and having lost her to cancer, I'm sure y'all understand how hard it is to read Stephen King. It seems like so many of his stories involve a cancer sufferer. Anyway, I came lurking around this weekend and I'm so happy to see so many old faces and love that there are so many new ones. I feel like I'm home again.
Back to my reason for starting this, my son's girlfriend borrowed 22 of my SK books, promising to bring them right back, well, of course, they have become victims of a senseless violence. Her home burned and they went up in a blaze of glory. Needless to say, she is no longer around so no hope in getting my babies replaced that way. I've decided to start completely over and get hardcovers where possible, but am out of the loop. Any thoughts or opinions on which company has the best versions? I bought the cemetery dance edition of Carrie and just love it, but I don't want to mess it up so I'm thinking about picking up some paperback copies of my missing ones for reading, but will no longer be lending.

Welcome back, jcadams. So sorry about your mom. I hope you'll be able to stay around and enjoy your time here again.

I'm also sorry to hear about your books. There are many fine members here who have twinner copies of books, or don't mind looking in their local areas for the ones you're missing...you should list the titles you want. HollyGolightly just started a thread about having books she wanted to give away. I hope you can replace all your titles quickly.

Daniel, thanks for the sentiments. I noticed Holly started a thread after posting, so I'll be checking that out. As for listing my books, it still hurts just looking at the empty spots where they should be. I thought maybe I was nuts, until the 3 youngest kids (ages 23, 22 and 22) noticed and all got upset. My husband says not to worry about the cost just buy new ones and stop moping. He so gets me.

Welcome back :grinning: Value Village or some other type of thrift shop can be a good source for Stephen King books - you might luck in

Nice avatar!

p.s. Sorry to hear of your loss - my Mom passed away from pancreatic cancer so I can empathize:confuse:

I'm so sorry to hear that. I've had just about enough of cancer even existing. I guess I live in the wrong area, all our thrift shops never have SK. I may have to stalk the stores and rip them away from others.

Welcome back! I'm going to plug one of my favorite places for used books- thriftbooks.com I have been able to buy for pennies on the dollar some rare books that I wanted for my collection. They have pretty much every King book you would want. Shipping is free on orders over $10. They ship the books in plastic bags (grey) so sometimes you may get a dinged corner. You can set up a 'wish list' for those titles that are out of stock. They will send you an email when a title is back in stock. Prices average around $4.00 for hardbacks. Make sure you familiarize yourself with the icons they use such as an ex-library copy or a book without a dustjacket, that way you won't be disappointed if one comes that way in the mail. I'm also a thrift store junkie. Just a few weeks ago I found a very nice hardback 1st printing of Interview With The Vampire by Anne Rice at Goodwill and paid $1.99! Ten years ago I found an autographed 1st printing of Insomnia at Goodwill and paid $1.99 for that, too!!
