Guess what? It popped up again! Task manager doesn't get rid of it, I've tried several times.
If I go to Microsoft Edge from my desktop, it pops up. If I go to Microsoft Edge from my taskbar, or from the start up menu, it is not there. Very weird.
Yeah, I think I got took.
The worm was called Koobface.
Lesson learned. Unless YOU initiate a call to either your PC's help line or your Norton anti-virus help line, NEVER call a random phone number that pops up on your computer screen or give out ANY information over the phone should these creeps call you.

Edit to add: Furthermore, I never answer the phone any more Land line or cell phone). I depend on caller ID. If I know the caller, I answer, otherwise I let it go to VM. If it is truly is important, your REAL credit card company, phone service provider, etc. will leave a message with a legitimate # to call which you then can verify through asking THEM for information. This may seem cybnical, but that's the society in which we live these days. Too many con artists and way too many ways for them to work their cons.

You might want to call your credit card company if you haven't already. Perhaps they can reverse the charge to your card if this was a scam and put an alert on it to make sure no unauthorized charges are made going forward.

Give this a try:

Go to your control panel or whatever it's called in Win10 and go to where you can uninstall programs. When you get the list, click the date part of the menu and it should re arrange your programs by date installed. Look for programs installed in the last couple of days that you did not install. If you find something weird, uninstall it.

There was none, except for Google Chrome which he was working from.
Ok, I called my credit card company, and they told me to call them, and find out exactly who they are, and try to resolve the problem with them.
I did. They are Microsoft tech support. The guy said it should not have popped up again, and he is going to talk to his manager to find out what is going on, and will call me back.
I told him I would go out, and buy a new computer if that is what it took, and he said the same thing would happen to a new one. I don't believe him. Especially if I can get online from 2 other ways. I will not tell him that though.

The people running the scam now have your credit card number, correct, pegasus216 ?
I would discontinue the card and get one with a new number immediately.
Can the Norton people help any with this? Call them and tell them what happened so they are aware that this sneaked past their security measures, at least.

This is a scam. Google it. We had these idiots call us 3 times in a row one night; they are relentless.

The did not call me. I called them. All of them had Indian accents though.
My Norton blocked the one where you could hear them.
BTW, that guy has not called me back yet either.
pegasus216 yes, you called them. But you called the # on the notification, right??? If you called that # IT was the scam. It was not a valid / real # to microsoft.

I think you are right Spidey.
It is still up there, and I don't know how to get rid of it. I've tried.
pegasus216 not tech savvy , but possible post #26. I stayed away from PC's after too many issue. Only suggestion would be to get on another computer. Find the microsoft support # and call them.
This is what I see on a google search. They could direct you to the correct help.

Sorry you got scammed. I've never had a virus checker on my computer because it never made sense to me. For all I know when money is tight and times are hard these virus protection folks could infect you just to drum up business. I did have a few viruses over the years and was always able to hunt them down and manually remove them from my system (very tricky sometimes due to scheduling, registry runs, and services...this makes them popup and start themselves all over again). Never had any damage from them and if any information leaked out then who cares, I'm not that interesting. On another note I'm thinking of selling my own line of clothing and calling it 'malwear'. My slogan will be "Looks so good it's infectious!"

If that doesn't work you can open a line of camping gear and call it Malcontent.
