My daughter believed in ghosts , so I got her to watch Most Haunted (a 'factual' ghost hunting programme here in the UK) . She doesn't believe anymore ;)
that's a joke I stole from Viz adult comic. Derek Acorah, the presenter, has been outed as a charlatan on a few occasions, been a non believer , and knowing he's a con artist, makes the show quite comical to watch.
I'm saying this just because. Just because someone fakes or imitates a real thing, it doesn't prove that there are no real things.
So far as fake T.V. psychics go, they are hilarious to me. The ghosts even laugh at them. :ghost:

I'm very rational minded Patricia. I'm a militant atheist, and don't believe in anything spiritual whatsoever. But since the birth of my daughter I do believe in life after death, only in I have passed on a huge part of myself to here through my DNA and through my nurturing, which has lessened the fear of death for me.

Science is a beautiful thing. Was, is and always will be.

Derren Brown is good at showing how clairvoyance, psychological magic and horoscopes are done. And Richard Dawkins, when he's not arguing with theists, is good at explaining 'supernatural' experiences, and things like coincidences. The Colour of Magic is a great book.

Colour of Magic, was my first Pratchett!
Anyway, I know what I know. I only have my word. I know what's happened to me and to deny it would be futile. My mind does not un-see things. I however don't make it my life's mission to prove that people who die don't always just go away. I'm too busy with things I understand.

Especially when it feels like someone has climbed in bed with you, and you can't move. I dread to think how someone who believes in ghosts would cope with that.
As an adult, even though I believe in ghosts, I know that not everything that goes bump in the night is the ghost. But when I was a child growing up with a hyper-religious mother, who thought I was plagued by demons, it was pretty bad. She was terrified for me, which made it worse for me.
I experienced Night Terrors through a lot of my childhood. They slowed down toward adolescence. In my adult life I've only had a few.
Here's the funny thing about it, knowing what they are when you are awake is a comfort... when you're awake, but it makes them no less horrible when they are happening.
Gosh I hate those things. One's brain sure knows how to freak one out.
