I have experienced several strange occurances:
I had my graphics studio in the top floor of an early 1800s house in Colchester, the oldest market town in the UK and Roman capitol of Britain. The room would have been the servants quartets back in the day and had a narrow staircase which doubled back on itself. Every time I used these stairs I felt a draught across the top of my head but could never find where it was coming from. I mentioned this to the buildings caretaker and he said it was the feet of a servant who changed herself from the beam in the roof and her feet were at head height. I moved premises soon after that.

Another time I was the only one at home already from my two dogs asleep at my feet. A noise like footsteps was heard on the stairs and the dogs looked up, growled and moved to the door to the stairs which opened. The dogs growled and backed up towards me. They both say and their heads moved slowly from the door, past me and over to the corner where the curtain moved. They growled all through this but after the curtain moved they lay quietly and went back to sleep.

I now live in a Victorian house built circa 1863 and in my bedroom a teddy bear that sits on the table regularly is found on the bed. No one ever moves the bear and this often happens during the day while we are all out at work.

I do have more if you are interested

OK, here's some more...
I travel all over the UK for my work and regularly stay in the Bell Hotel in a town called Thetford on the Norfolk Suffolk border. At the time of this I didn't know that it's is reputedly one of theost haunted hotels in the UK.

Anyway, I awoke suddenly one night with the strangest feeling that the duvet had been lifted up off me as if someone had grabbed the edge and tossed the duvet to spread it out. It was very strange but I put this down to a bad dream. It was room 19. A few weeks later I was asked to review the hotel for one of the big booking websites, I did this and started to read some of the other reviews, one described the bed covers being lifted off them.. in room 19!

When at college back in the early to mid 80s, I worked at a small cinema. It was 1930s built and used to be a single screen but the downstairs part had been altered to make it a 3 screen cinema. All the staff quickly came to know of Fred, the ghost.

One Sunday while sitting in the staff room talking to colleagues the door opened and closed, the room went very cold, so cold you could see your breath. I had only been there a couple of weeks and thought wtf. But unbiased a long standing usheret said "Oh Fred, go away". The door opened and closed and the room went back to normal.

Everyone continued as if nothing had happened.

Several weeks later after the last showing I had to lock up by going downstairs into the 2 smaller screens and putting gains onto the panic bars on the exits. I had done this nightly for weeks.

This time however, as I approached the door in the first of the 2 screens where a door, rarely used gave access to the main screen, I thought I saw someone standing, just a vague shape, no face but the clothes old style baggy trousers turned up at the bottom, jacket with tales, shirt with turned up collar and a dickie bow tie, a bit like the old butter in a period drama. Just a trick of the light I thought and went past and put the chain on the outer door, all the time thinking I was being watched. I turned and the figure was still there. Now at a faster pace, more a run really, I went to the other screen and did the same the almost flew up the stairs, I was being followed, I was sure of it. I got to the ground floor foyer where the manager and other staff were waiting to put the alarm on for us all to go out and the first words said to me were "what's up? You look like you've seen a ghost." I didn't reply, just smiled, got me coat and went home to bed.

Now you may think I made these up, but I guarantee they are completely true. And I still have others... If you want to travel there with me.

The cinema is closed now and in a very sad state, if you want to see it, just search for the old odeon cinema, Colchester Essex in your favourite search engine. If you do, above the entrance, the first window to the left was the staff room.

No, I don't think you're telling fish stories. I know for a fact that there are things going on in our world science can't explain yet. That's fascinating to me.
Thanks for the info to search on the Bing. I'll do that.
More stories? Yes, do tell.

This one's from an old friend who lives in a cottage, Parts of which go back around 500 years...
His house is haunted, he and I were sitting talking to late in the night when I heard footsteps, his wife coming down the stairs, I turned expecting her but 2 grayish blurrs peaked around the door like kids do when playing. This made him tell me the following.

He had seen these 2 before, regularly, and he worked away a lot for a local brewery who sent him to a conference. He got talking to a woman delegate who out of the blue put her hand on his arm and said "the two children in your house won't harm you. They are just lost souls, a brother and sister." he hadn't told her anything.
Anyway, cutting a long story short, at the end of the conference a group photo was taken the woman standing beside him on the back row.
The phot arrived but the woman wasn't there. He was puzzled and asked a colleague where she was. The colleague, puzzled said there was no woman. They all thought he was drunk each night talking to himself in the corner. Not sure which spirits here but I did see the two grey figures.

More to follow but off to work now.

A lull at work: I train engineers a Computer Aided Design package and they are doing their modelling exercises so here's another true ghost story.

At the aforementioned cinema back in the 1980's funnily enough around the time of the first Ghostbusters movie, several of the staff were standing talking in the main foyer while the afternoon showings ran. We heard footsteps coming down the stairs from Screen 1 behind me, being a 1930's built cinema the steps were concrete and painted so footsteps were always quite loud. Someone coming to by a drink or something from the concession counter by which we were standing.

However, the usherette standing facing me and so looking at the steps behind suddenly went wide eyed as the footstep sound changed to that of feet on the central carpeted area. Something not right here so I turned to look too. There was no one there and thew footsteps went past us. The door at the far end of the concession counter opened and closed and the footsteps again changed sound as they went onto the hollow raised wooden floor behind the counter. The two women behind the counter pressed themselves against the wall as if letting someone passed. The footsteps stopped, then restarted again this time going the other way, the door opened and closed, they went back passed us on the carpet and back up the stairs. We never saw anyone.

At the hotel in Thetford, I was kind of awake but drifting off to sleep when the door flew open and a man rushed in and looked around the room in a panic, "No not in here" he screamed and slammed the door shut behind him. At this I was definitely fully awake and when I looked there wasn't a door where the man had entered. Well, the lights were on from then on but a few minutes later I felt as if someone had got in to bed beside me, a child by the size but there was no one there.

I still stay in that hotel but have never experienced any other events like that. Some say a women walks the hotel at night and checks everyone is tucked up in bed. She walks between rooms keys jangling in her hand as she looks for the one for that room. Never seen her myself but she is believed to be one of the old housekeepers who did this very thing every night.. The hotel by the way is an old Elizabethan coaching inn so has a lot of history and is right beside the river and an old church. A hooded figure has been reported walking at night between the church and the inn, believed to be a monk.
