I was iffy on it at first, but got into the story. I love the internet and have made some wonderful friends here, but... WOW. It was an excellent cautionary tale.

Oh man! I just watched Talhotblond and it scared the bejabbers out of me! That woman should be serving some time. I guess technically she can't be tried for murder, but what about exploitation? Of her own daughter. She is one sick b*tch.

I watched "First Contact", a social experiment documentary series wherein six white "ordinary" Australians with little to no experience with Aboriginal Australians, some with racist views, are taken to a variety of largely Indigenous communities, including far north rural Aboriginal communities, as well as a prison largely inhabited by Aboriginal males .

(For those who don't know, relations between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Australians have been very strained for a very long time. For example, in the first half on the 20th century Aboriginal children were forcibly taken from their parents by the government. It took until 2008 for the Australian Government to apologise. Until 1967 Aboriginal people were categorised under "Flora and Fauna" and as such, not allowed to vote. Aboriginal people have a much lower life expectancy than the Australian average, due to isolated communities having little access to modern technology, as well as substance abuse in some communities.)

I think the program was very interesting and well made, but also very confronting.

I answered this. What happened to my answer?

Anyway, I've seen only 2 on the list. I will check out the rest, thanks!

EDITED: Ah, it was in the Cantina I answered this! I knew I did!

Isn't that confusing when someone posts the same thing in more than one thread? It 'throws you for a loop' - not sure what that (literally) means...

maybe it should be 'throws you for a loupe'?

I am watching the Roosevelts documentary series. Eleanor was an amazing person, but boy, she is not a pretty woman.
What is the deal with Roosevelt's head? It's like one of those damn bouncy head dogs you see in the back windows of people's cars! And I don't think it has anything to do with his polio!

Watched on Netflix. I realize this was supposed to be inspiring, but it depressed the h*ll outta me. These older women embrace their aging and their personal style with such passion. I wish I felt that way about getting older. One woman interviewed, Joyce Carpati (age 80), is truly one of the loveliest and classiest ladies I have ever seen.

I haven't seen that movie, but I have been to jindabyne.

It was pretty disgusting IMO. ( I know it's fiction/drama but seems to show how Aboriginals are considered.)

Just a quick summary:

Four men living in Australia go to their long awaited yearly weekend fishing trip. Shortly after arriving at the river and start fishing they find the body of a young Aboriginal girl who has been murdered. Rather than report it straight away, they continue fishing. Just before their weekend fishing trip comes to an end, they report to the police.

Peace.
