I don't listen to podcasts for the same reason I don't watch youtube videos unless it's something that has to be listened to/seen.

I just don't have the patience. I can read so much faster, and get a thirty minute interview into my brain in less than 5 minutes. There are seven people in my house, so my time to use the TV, computer, radio (shower, toilet, microwave) is limited and I need to get what I need and get on to the next thing before someone else either needs what I'm using, or needs me to do Mom stuff.

So, I have no issue with the content of podcasts, I just need to get a few of these humans off to college before I will able to enjoy them. :)

Y'all breaking my heart!!!!

I understand they're not for everyone. I just enjoy talking about King and getting to talk to people I normally never would. Our last episode we got to talk to a Pulizter prize winning author - Mark Campbell about bringing opera to the masses by taking popular works like - The Shining - and writing a libretto for it. It was a blast. He was wonderful to talk to and radiated enthusiasm for the project. Someone I would never had gotten the opportunity to talk to otherwise.

It's a labour of love and if anyone else is interested and entertained by them, that's a wonderful bonus.

PS - we try to keep the pontificating to a minimum.
No offense intended :) It just doesn't occur to me to listen to them. I do like NPR interviews, so maybe I should try one.

Oh my gosh, I'm sorry. I did not think about you when I posted this thread. No personal offense meant OldDarth.

the Gilbert Gottfried podcasts are beyond incredible! Like manna from heaven!

Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast! -

Seriously, if you want to give a podcast a try, this is the one. There are a bunch you can listen to for free, and there is a new one every Monday. Often he & his co-host talk to people like Dick Van Dyke, or Norman Lear -- people in their 90's! Who are still incredibly lucid & have great stories to tell. The recent one with songwriter Jimmy Webb was great. Listen to the one with Bernie Kopell & you'll be hooked.

Babara Feldon who he worked with him on the old 'Get Smart' series called in, and they have a wonderful relationship. He's obviously incredibly enamored of her. Apparently, She's turned down tons of acting work over the years because she'd rather enjoy her life & her uptown New York apartment. Bernie Kopell said they talk about twice a week, and one time she told him, "Bernie I have to go. I have a string quartet in here." :) He makes her sound like Annie Hall in real life. It's kind of wonderful that people that have known one another for 50 plus years can have such affection for one another. Anyway, I'm hooked on the damn things! There's a lot of great stuff in these. Anyway, give them a listen. Stop being babies!

This.
I can listen (and have listened) to some podcasts, but for me they have to hit a 25-30 minute sweet-spot so I can stick them on while I exercise. At all other times I'd rather read.
I also abhor the fake-bright 'aren't we so funny/zany/wacky/nerdy?' voices that too many presenters put on. Maybe it reminds me of kids' TV too much. I couldn't stand patronising bullcrap even as a nipper, so any hint of it - or worse, talking down to the audience - and...bye bye.

I have a list of them that I find quite enjoyable. Horror Movie Podcast is by far my favorite, but I'm a complete horror movie nerd and many of the episodes run 3 hours or more. The hosts do a terrific job and they never drag. They're currently doing a series on the film adaptations of one Stephen King.

I also listen to Youth Baseball Talk, as my kids all play and The Juicebox Podcast, in which I learn more from the host about my son's diabetes than I do from doctors.
