Hi folks,

Does anyone know if the Dollar Baby rights are given on merit, i.e., do I have to pitch myself in the form, or do I simply ask? I'm a filmmaker and would love to make an attempt at one of the stories.

Thanks
Welcome Miscolo. I will tag Stephen's assistant to help you further.

I did find this that Moderator posted to someone else.

"You would need to submit your proposal (use the contact us link) and include the following information: which book you're interested in adapting as a stage production, whether it is for profit, your experience, where you would plan to present your play, your financial ability to do so. Not all books would be available for adaptation as rights may have already been optioned so we would need to check availability first. Option rights and fees are negotiated on a case-by-case basis so we do not have a set fee/contract."

That's more for commercial rights for a stage production, not so much for the dollar babies.

All you need to do for a dollar baby (not a for-profit film) is to fill out the form here after choosing one of the stories from this list on the same page.

Thanks folks, appreciate any help. The message about stage adaptations might be relevant, thanks.
This also depends on whether this is for profit or not and whether the title of the work you want to adapt has already been optioned for film as the stage rights may have been included. Use the Contact Us form link Dana Jean included in her reply to you if you want to request a stage production instead of a dollar baby.

Ah, didn't see these replies until now, thought I would get notifications. Thanks everyone for replying and welcoming me! I guess I'll use the form and pitch myself a little bit in the hope of getting the rights, it makes the most sense. I'm taking some time first to think about how I'd like to do the story I'll pick.
