Utterly failing in the professional realm and feeling that my career is ruined.
Spending the whole dream at work and waking up tired.

The other night I had a dream that was a "first" for me. I was crying in my dream and actually woke up crying. I've started crying after waking from a bad dream before, but never was actually crying as I woke up. :(
((morgan)) I've done that before. Very troubling.

Do you have 'premonition' dreams? I'm not sure I would call them premonition dreams.. as they are always happening when I have them. Several times I have woke up screaming in my sleep (through my life) , saying something is wrong (and will say what it is).. and it was true.
For instance , one time I woke screaming my mother couldn't breath.. and I couldn't shake it off.. I was really freaking out, so my husband called my mother and she was not able to breath. We called an ambulance from our house and made a nascar race out of the two hour drive to the hospital they took her to.
Most of my dreams like this have been in connection to my mother.. but there have been others. Even people I did not know. This one was very strange.. I woke screaming " Jon Jon is drowning!! Jon Jon is hurt and drowning!!! I hear people calling his name.. they can't find him in the water!! " My youngest son's name is Jon, and we call him Jon Jon. My husband took me to his room to show me he was asleep in bed. I was so upset I could not go back to sleep. When we turned on the tv ... Jon Jon Kennedy had crashed his plane .. in the water... and they were searching for him ??

I would love to hear others that do this... ? It is a very freaky feeling.. and it is not controlled. I can't sit down and think on someone and know something is wrong. It just happens and I am almost always asleep. And it isn't often. Only one time did it happen when I was awake and that was again about my mother.

Wow! Very intense premonitions! I've had a couple of dreams that could be construed as such.

I dreamt about a gorgeous dove filling the sky - and awoke to a phone call telling me to get to the hospital, it wouldn't be long for my dad. He died within a couple of hours of my arrival.

I had a dream that I was walking in a hospital corridor and a man fell at my feet, dying, and awoke to a phone call from my mom telling me my uncle had just died from a heart attack.

I like to think those dreams were my dad and my uncle coming to say goodbye.

Yes.. it is very intense.. and frightening , because it was always something bad. No more than a half dozen times. None since my Mother passed.. they seemed to mostly be about her.

No one has came to me before they passed.. I was with both my parents when they each passed. But my Mother was not with my dad when he passed.. and she had something similar to what happened to you. My dad died of lung cancer.. he slipped into a coma a couple of hours before he passed. When he slipped into the coma, my Mother had a dream. She said she was in a car with him, and he pulled over and let her out. Told her to wait for him, that she couldn't go with him. They kissed and he told her he loved her. And then he drove away. As she stood there, several people she knew in her life came by and asked her why she was there, and where my dad was, and if she needed a ride to go meet him. And she said no, he wanted her to stay there.. and that he said they would be together again. And then she woke up... as soon as she woke up I called her and told her Daddy passed. We both truly believe he came to her to say goodbye. It was so sad but yet so overwhelmingly touching. I believe that is exactly what happened with all my heart.

Oh, yeah. My husband sometimes wakes me up during these. I do it so often that he's not scared like he was when he first encountered it.

Hasn't happened to me in a long time, thankfully, but my mom is another matter. She has done this many times, usually when just dropping off to sleep. Not always a direct family member but usually someone she knows. The most disturbing for her was once when she was visiting a friend in another part of the state. Each time she lay down to try and sleep, she would see trees above her and hear water. It was clear enough that she recognized a creek near where her sister lived. She said she felt like she was trapped in the creek and couldn't get out. This went on all night. Two days later she talked to her sister. The sister's brother-in-law had wrecked his car on the way home and crashed into that creek. They didn't find him until the next morning. He survived but had serious injuries. Yes, I believe there is a large part of our brains that most of us don't or can't use and this stuff is real!

My dreams are really vivid, and I don't remember the vast majority. Sometimes they're worth remembering, but they just don't stick. And then a few you kinda wish you could forget.

The most common upsetting dream is the failure-at-the-job dream. In talking to my colleagues, it seems to be a shared experience.

A dream I had within the last few months was a doozy. Grandma had left early for work, and I woke up to the garage door opening.

I wondered why she was coming back early. She came in the room, talked to me, and I was getting out of bed and getting ready, but things seemed pretty strange. I woke up, thinking, wow, I can't remember the last time I dreamed I woke up.

The garage door opened, and I figured I must've dreamed that she was coming back early because maybe she'd called me while I was half-asleep, and it sunk in, in the form of a dream. She came in, and I got up, but things were weird. And then I woke up.

Okay, that was really unsettling. I better get on with my day. This will be an interesting one to tell others, if I remember it. Then I hear Grandma coming up the stairs, talking to me. When did she get home? And then I woke up.

Okay, now I'm frazzled, and I better get up now, and I start to, and Grandma walks through the bedroom door, and I yell and jerk myself awake...

For real this time. She was sleeping beside me, and the sheets around me, the air I was breathing, the rustly sounds of the world, were unmistakable. I got up and got ready for work.

No, really, that time I did. But I have to say, it was one of the weirder dream experiences I've ever had, and I've had some strange ones.

ETA: I remember when it was. The last Friday the 13th that we had. No, I'm not superstitious. But that was when it was.
You add "ETA" at the end - what does this mean? I always thought it meant Estimated Time of Arrival

I may have posted this somewhere else on the board but cannot remember where.

Andy had a vivid nightmare in which his dead wife came to him in a dream and was saying "your turn is next!"

I thought he had said that flames were coming through her eyes, nostrils, mouth and the hole in her throat (where she had had a laryngectomy).

Both Andy and Claire had been heavy smokers and drank quite a bit of alcohol throughout their lives.

Anyway, he said that no, it was not flames but just light that was coming out of those places.

It scared the heck out of him. Shortly after that he found out he had squamous cell carcinoma under his tongue.

Yikes! I hope that was enough to scare him off the cigs for good!:icon_eek:

In this case, it usually means, "Edited To Add".

Oh - okay - edited to add, then.

Actually no - Andy DOES still smoke but he says he is down to 8 cigarettes per day, so that is an improvement over a 2 pack a day smoker!

(I'll take it).

I never really thought of why it happens.. this is very interesting. I would love to be able to understand dreams, all aspects of dreams... especially premonitions.

This thread came to mind this morning. I was really exhausted last night and went to bed on time, a rarity. A decent interval for sleep, a rarity. An ability to spend that time sleeping, still another rarity.

The moments before waking had a dream that was so visually rich, so self-affirming, so bizarre, and so nonsensical... well, let's just say that I'm glad that the passage of time will fade this discordant mess from the memory banks. It wasn't bad, just weird. I mean, "let's not talk about it" weird.

One thing I have noticed over the years... when I am hot during the night, my dreams are weirder and more vivid. I sleep year round with the ceiling fan on.

Last night, I dreamt that Stephen King and I were talking on a sidewalk when we noticed John Candy on the other side attempting to cross. A speeding car came bearing down upon him so he jumped over the hood of the car, like a flea, and landed on the other side. This would make Freud shake his head.

I had a weird dream about a couple of days ago. I was making out with a person of the same sex as me and I'm straight. The thing of it was, I was enjoying it in the dream. Now, I'm wondering if I'm secretly gay, bi-curious or what?

My last dream was of me and Stephen. We were hanging out at the gas station where I always buy my gas. I like that station because it's clean and I've come to know many of the employees. Well, Stephen and I were eating ice-cream cones . . .big vanilla ones and we were getting tattooed --matching tattoos of The Dark Tower on our biceps. Beneath the tattoo was the phrase: "Come over to The Dark Tower", in beautiful script writing. I remember laughing at some things that Stephen was saying and then he was served with a warrant for non-child support payments for his ill-legitimate daughter named: Mollie . . . he took it all in stride. I remember laughing while dreaming. It was a really cool dream.

I have my best (or worst) vivid dreams and best sleep when my alarm first goes off at 5 am.
I then sleep with the phone in my hand under the pillow to squeeze it off when it alarms again - every 5 minutes until about 5:30.

I am sleeping so well and deep.
