I've never used a kindle or e-reader before. I'm not very tech savvy, so if I did decide to get one, which is the easiest to use?

I have a Fire but really liked the Paperwhite I now handed off to my son. Both are types of Kindles. For myself a backlit device would be a must. Not sure if the non backlit are still even being offered in the new market?

I just have to make a stand (once again) for the search function on the Kindle. It is probably the MOST useful tool invented for the reader since the invention of the printing press. If like me you have problems remembering people or places introduced early in a book and not heard from again until much later on, the search function was made for you! All you have to do is type in the character or place name and the search brings up every instance of that word/word combination in chronological order. Tap on the first entry and there is the first time that person or place was mentioned. Reread that section and then you are up to speed. I can't tell you how many times this has come in handy!
Yup! I find the search feature to be pretty handy as well.

What I don't like, much, about the kindle is the words, sentences, phrases underlined with a broken line (468 highlighters) or whatever the number is. Maybe there is a way to hide that that I'm not aware. The writer didn't write it that way, underline a sentence, look here, reader! this one is good! pause and reflect! NO! I don't wanna! Isn't that a tad like a thought-fish? And how many thought of UR when reading Watch? UR was one of the first stories I put on my first kindle. And too, you can place or remove any kindle story you have. UR isn't...lost my train...oh, yeah...friggin typos!...UR isn't on the second kindle, but I could place it there anytime, or that's how I understand it.

There may be a way around that underline, I have a Kindle and daughter has a Kindle Fire HD- we share an Amazon Fire Tablet and that is the only device where I see the underlining. Not on the Kindles.

How To Turn Off Popular Highlights on the Kindle
1. Press the "Home" button to return to your Home screen.
2. Press the Menu button.
3. Select "Settings" on the menu.
4. Select "off" for the Popular Highlights setting.

How To Turn Off Popular Highlights on the Kindle iPhone or iPad App
1. Press the "Home" button to return to your Home screen.
2. Press the "i" button at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
3. Select "off" for the Popular Highlights setting.

Note that if the menu shows the setting as "On" that means the "Popular Highlights" function is actually off; conversely, if the menu displays "Off" the function is on. Although this sounds like Alice in Wonderland style logic, it's in line with many electronic menus where the display options don't display the settings you currently have, but what the setting will be if you click the button.

Please also note that these instructions do not apply to printed books where a simple pencil ("On") and eraser ("Off") will do the job quite satisfactorily.

Heh! I hope that works! Instead of "Menu"...I clicked on something else as Menu is not an option. "Apps" I clicked on...do have the "Settings" button. I did find a highlights option and it was...behind another curtain. "Reader" something..."reader options" or the like. Only time will tell. Wasn't what is on or off but I assume that by moving the button to the other position we're cooking with gas. Thank you! :)

Exactly how I feel! Sometimes I have a hard time recalling the introductory details of a character, and it is so convenient to be able to find the info instantly.

Also, if I can't sleep during the night, the night time function on my nook app lets me pass the time reading without turning on a light and disturbing the husband.
