Has anyone read any of the other nominees?
This is an old thread, bear with me. I have read all of Marcus Sakey's books, and he is a damn fine author. So fine that I do not blush when I compare him to Elmore Leonard in my head.

My personal favourite is The Amateurs, but I think all his books are great. It was surprising to see him switch from pretty hard boiled crime novels with a social commentary to science fiction with Brilliance, but it worked for me, and I am looking forward his next book in that universe.

Whether he wins or not, I still enjoyed this book on its own merit
