I think I'm going to find some of those titles and see how it goes. Always looking for a new author to like.

Just to clarify my question about the other books, I was wondering how the competition stacked up in comparison to Joyland. No disrespect intended! Hoping Joyland wins!

This is an old thread, bear with me. I have read all of Marcus Sakey's books, and he is a damn fine author. So fine that I do not blush when I compare him to Elmore Leonard in my head.

My personal favourite is The Amateurs, but I think all his books are great. It was surprising to see him switch from pretty hard boiled crime novels with a social commentary to science fiction with Brilliance, but it worked for me, and I am looking forward his next book in that universe.

Whether he wins or not, I still enjoyed this book on its own merit

Great news. It's also at #16 on the NYT mass market paperback list, while Mr. Mercedes is at #1 on both the hardcover and the combined print and e-book lists.
