After reading through all of this I am going to stop whining about all of the changes. If he is starting off with the horn of Eld the journey can be as close or far from the original as they choose. Not unlike how JJ Abrams set a whole new timeline for the same Star Trek characters. Maybe he draws a junkie and a cripple into Midworld and maybe he doesn't. It sounds like Idris really wants to get the character right. It also leaves open the possibility of a more accurate depiction at a future date for anyone with the stones to try. I'll go see it on the big screen and simply enjoy the fact that Roland is roaming about the vast Todash space of Hollywood.
