The problem with religious fundamentalists of all stripes is the tendency to substitute superstition for spirituality.

Stephen King on Twitter 20 hours ago =D

I almost put this in the Religion thread but thought better of it - did not want to start a "kerfuffle"

I've often amused myself -- since the advent of this fine internet age-- with the idea that there would be far fewer problems in this world if people could somehow find a way to get over their opinions.

Everybody's entitled to their opinions and the right to express them. Perhaps a better thing would be for people to not get so upset about or obsessed with someone else's and form their own.

Mother Teresa: " Do It Anyway" (The Prayer Foundation).

This was attributed to Mother Teresa:

Do it Anyway

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway.

What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, will often be forgotten. Do good anyway.

Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway.

In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.

-this version is credited to Mother Teresa

If you read what is in the link, there is more to it (as apparently there is an original version from 1968 written by Kent M. Keith)

It's weird but the poem I recall ended with "Love them anyway" so I don't think this is the one I was thinking of :umm:

There is something here, blunt.

Something I can't quite grasp.

"A lie gets half around the world, before the truth gets its boots on."

That is something I remember from Graham Parker . . . although it might not be. his own line.

Graham Parker -- in this context -- makes me think of Kid Charlemagne, and how that was back then.

How it was back then makes me think of a guy named John ... who actually met Graham Parker . .. .

All of which makes me remember, as Arkady Darrell was so wise to point out, that a circle goes full 'round.

Or that ka is a wheel.

Say it however you like.

Sorry - not to derail the thread - I just like Steely Dan

Not remotely famous . . . or even a quote, as far as that goes . . ..

and yet . . .

"I'm an artist, Britta. I write what I feel. And I feel . . . that you suck."

-- Some Guy Named Vaughnn
