I stumbled in here trying to find a fan mail link. Wow what an amazing group of people. I mean you hear about fans and followings, but I haven't really gotten into that since this social era took off.

If you have something you want to say to someone and there is no way to get a hold of them, do you give up? Share your heart to strangers on a forum you just stumbled into?

Well I'm standing here with the door open, a cold breeze pushing against my back...

Stephen King,

The first book of yours I read was On Writing after bleeding onto the keyboard every night for two years. I cried more than a dozen times before I finished it and swear I underlined half the book. It was a surprise to find out you came from humble beginnings and me think I might have a chance at this writing thing.

I had grown up watching Stephen King movies, but feared reading your books would be too scary. I picked up Doctor Sleep to study it for craft and found myself falling into the scenes. Thank you for writing it. My brother was drowning in alcohol at that time.

Now he is gone. I just finished my first novel and I feel like writing will never fix this hole ripped through my heart. So I reread On Writing and I can breathe again.

Thank you for being strong, passionate, and brutally honest. I know what it takes to pull pieces of yourself off and paste them onto paper, then send them off just to be ripped apart. Thank you for taking that chance, because it's helping me get happy.

May you fill our heads with lovely nightmares for many more years. It is a curse and a blessing.
