Under your bed
Reading Revival last night got me a'thinkin about guitarists. Can't play a single chord, but I sure do appreciate 'pickers n grinners'. Seems like a good subject to get chattery about, so here goes:

Favorite guitarists:
1. Jimi Hendrix. Sure, he's kind of a given, but I tell yez, I can never get enough of ol' Jimi. The cat was superhuman, an angel, a devil, a genius, a madman--a VOODOO child, do ya. Around my house we call em GOD.

2. David Gilmore. This guy blows my mind as well, just churns my brain butter like nobody's business.

3. Mike McCready. Say Pearl Jam, and most cats think Eddie Vedder. Not Muskie--as far as I'm concerned, McCready is the star of that band. Totally underrated, IMO.

4. Keef. Mick's cool and all, but Keith Richards is the top Stone, hands down (Mick Taylor was pretty good as well).

5. Brian May. Sure, Freddie had a good set o' pipes, but I LOVE May's chirpy pickin. Amazing.

Yeah, I dig the oldies, but you pretty much have to if ya wanna hear actual musicians playing actual instruments. This new stuff the kids listen to--dear lord, it's embarrassing.

Bruce Cockburn is pretty good on most stringed instruments - have you heard him play guitar? What about Stevie Ray Vaughn? I do not know much about guitar, but I love Stevie Ray's music!
What do you think of Eric Clapton - is he as good as they say, in your opinion?

1. David Gilmour (Not sure how to describe how much I admire what he does with a guitar.)
2. Stevie Ray Vaughn (Yet another reason I love the great state of Texas.)
3. Angus Young (Has any guitarist ever known what his fans want to hear more than this guy seems to?)
4. Jerry Cantrell (His guitar style to back up Layne Staley's vocals was something rare and enthralling.)
5. Mike McCready (His range amazes me, from "Sirens" to "Evenflow". Hard to believe it's the same guitarist.)

No one mentioned one of my faves, Carlos Santana? Listen to the version of "Europa" off the "Viva Santana!" album sometime. It's sublime.

Jimi.
Carlos.
Stevie.
Steve Howe.
Robin Trower.
Eddie ain't bad, for that matter, nor is Lindsay.
David Gilmour.
Peter Townsend was a dynamo.
